New to this, please help

  • I don't want to be a downer to those who have had success but I have been binging>dieting>binging>starving>binging for years and and I have really started to gain weight and become depressed because of it and I really need to overcome this. Any tips or information would be really helpful, Thanks!
  • I don't have any tips, other than to stick around here. The people on this board are great, and offer lots of support. If you feel the urge to binge, come and post. If you already binged, and are feeling crappy about it, post as well, it always makes me feel better.

The binge-free challenge is a great thread, too. Every week, supporting each other not to binge, just taking it one day at a time. I feel when I think about it over a long period of time, I crack.
  • I agree with Paris. The one day at a time strategy is used by a lot of the people here. I think celebrating little victories is key too. You started binging but stopped yourself when you realized what you were doing? Victory. After a binge, you learned something about what caused it? Victory. You make one good choice after a series of bad ones. Victory. It's all about praising yourself for even the tiniest good choices you make!
  • When one day at a time is too much, think this minute. Right now I won't eat what I shouldn't or I won't over eat. I will stop when I am no longer hungry right now.
    Good luck

  • Hi Soul Surfer. Welcome! I would binge 1 or 2 days a week after I lost 65 lbs. I did it for about 4 mo. straight. I always jumped right back on my diet the next day to lose what I gained. So I have managed to maintain my weight. But I am sick of feeling guilty and sick everytime I binge and having to lose the weight all over again is so hard. So, I refuse to buy my trigger foods and only keep healthy whole foods in my kitchen. It's been working, but I tend to over eat( not binge) on healthy foods now. Much better than before! Remember this, it helps me. "Nothing can taste as good as thin feels" And that is the truth!! Hope this helps.
  • Hi there I too have been trying to get off this merry go round for years -so sick of thinking about bingingor starving .Hope this works other people seem to think it does lets think positive and give it a go!!!
  • I think that we all have had the same challenges with dieting then binging, but at some point we have to decide "this is it", and commit to a life change, not just a diet for a while... at least that is how I feel about it! I decided three weeks ago that I am going to do something about my weight, and I am!! and I know you can too
  • My best protection against overeating (I am a night-eater) is to weigh in every day. I have a balance-beam scales, accurate to within one quarter of a pound. When tempted to gorge myself in the evening, I think of the price to be paid the next morning. Self-restraint would be better, but I don't have it. Daily weigh-ins is the next best thing.
