Kefir?? Protobionts??

  • Hey you guys,

I was wondering if kefir or other drinks with protobionts aid in weight loss. I dont have digestive issues but I have just heard so much about them lately that I am wondering if I should go try it.
  • Probiotics are just live bacteria, usually ones already found in your gastrointestinal system but sometimes "new" ones, that can help you digest food or protect against bad bacteria/fungi. unless maybe you had some sort of bacterial imbalance right now, and eating these products corrected it. I can't think of a way that they would help you lose weight (I'm a biochemist, but with very little experience in human biology) unless you had some imbalance now and didn't know it.

That said, I've heard of plenty of people saying that probiotics improved their digestive health, even when they didn't think they had any problems to begin with. So maybe it's worth a try! I do eat yogurt nearly every day, and I've tried yogurts that are supposed to have more/different probiotics, but I never felt a difference compared with days/weeks when I don't eat it. *shrug*
  • Biologist here - they would help make you regular - since I've started this weight loss thing, I've found that being regular is a HUGE part - it keeps your metabolism going and the food isn't sitting in your stomach. I'm not going to say that they're a key ingredient to weight loss (that's practicing portion control and exercising) but if you have digestive issues, it certainly does help a lot!
  • thanks guys!!

hey stellarosa27 --- I am a biologist too he he he

yeah I eat yogurt too. SO I think I am going to skip wasting my money on kefir.
