Another newbie here, with a question...

  • Hi, just wanted to introduce myself and ask a question. My name is Susan and I am waiting for my first MF shipment, eager to start. I am about 65 lbs overweight and have been on and off diets all my life. I am a Lifetime WW member, have tried Atkins, South Beach, calorie counting, omg so many different diets, I can't remember them all. I am really feeling desperate and like my health is depending on this. I am scared but excited at the same time!!

I have one question and I am wondering if it is stupid or what cuz I cannot find the answer anywhere on this site or the MF site. Are we allowed to take the "legal" veggies and condiments and make soup? I guess I am so ingrained with WW Zero Point Soup...lol. I always enjoyed it and it was a good filler and comforting and the weather is getting colder, even here in FL.

If this is ok, do you know of any specific recipes for a veggie soup? And would it be allowed only during the Lean and Green meal or anytime, as long as you stayed within your daily veggie allowances?

I guess I wonder the same about chili, but with no beans or onions, or maybe a taco soup type thing?

I am very excited to be here and I hope I can get and lend support from my fellow Medifast users!!!

    Thanks!!

  • Hi Natalie and thanks!!!

Congrats on your weight loss, that is so terrific!!! You are doing great! I went to your site and looked around, you have some great info on there. I will go back and read more when I can. I am determined to succeed with this and am looking forward to getting started soon.

I keep thinking about the soup. lol I can really see how if I just make a cup of broth and dump in your allowed amounts of veggies and lean protein and a bit of seasoning, it is soup!! Pretty simple and it would work. I guess what I am looking for is a soup recipe for a bigger quantity. The more I think about it, what I'd really want to do (and yes, I am probably overthinking this!) is like quadruple the broth and veggie amounts, make 4 servings of soup, divide it into 4 containers and THEN add the correct amount of protein at serving time in order to keep all the protein servings uniform. I am not sure if this gives away that I am a bit OCD.....OR if it shows I am a long term WW member when they were way more picky with things than they are now. lol But either way, it should work. And should be a good option for my L&G when I am in the mood for soup!

Which of the MF soups/chili pkts do you like? They all sound good to me but it sounds like it is very much a matter of individual ppls tastes.

    Thanks again!!

  • I'm starting MF on Wednesday but have been reading the forum for a while to get mentally prepared. I recall seeing somewhere that drinking broth or bouillion in the first few days is actually recommended. It helps ease hunger, and with all of the additional water we'll be drinking, the sodium helps retain potassium which we need.

I think I'll follow your idea and add one of my veggie from my L&G to it so I don't get ravenous and go off plan. Thanks for the great idea!!!
  • I remember that WW soup too. Turning your lean and green into soup should be easy. You could always measure the lean and green you are getting in your bowl from the pot.

I didn't really ever have a problem with being hungry you eat every 2-3 hours.

After you get into fat burn I felt like I had to force the lean and green down because I really felt like it was a lot to eat.

You can also split the L&G and that may help if you feel it's too much in one sitting.

My favorite MF soup is cream of brocc. and the chicken and wild rice. I also liked the crab.

I haven't tried the chili or stew yet. Make those a day before for the best results.

Good luck to you both. Medifast is a great program!
  • Haha, that soup is really good! And zero points to boot! All WW's peeps worship it!
