New Favorite Breakfast

  • I made a ton of cooked Quinoa
I've been nuking it with water during the week This Morning I figured I'd feed DH too so I took 2 cooked cups defrosted them Tossed it in a saucepan added ginger Nutmeg and cinamon and stirred it around till everything was fragrant
Added 1/2 ish cup of milk it bubbled up a Good splash of Vanilla maybe a tbsp
And probably 1/3 cup of splenda
then more ginger and cin and a pinch or 2 of seasalt

nice and creamy I topped it with another 1/2 cup of 1%

The same effect could be gotten in a single serve from adding a smidge of milk nuking with splenda spices and vanilla

it keeps me satiated for quite some time
I think if I omit the Milk topper then I might go back to adding 1/2 scoop of Protein
  • Sounds delicious
  • I love quinoa, but I've always had it savory. Kind of carby, but lots of protein. Think I will give it a whirl. Thanks KO!
  • this sounds FABULOUS, and like it might be a good substitute for rice in rice pudding [i've been having a bit of a craving recently - but so far have managed to ignore it!]
  • I love qunioa too. Mostly I've been putting it in chicken and veggie stews. but this sound good. Might try this with some yogurt or fruit.
  • Nan when I nuke it I then stir in the protein powder

Jiff I'm going to try cooking it with a little more Milk
or If I have some lurking in the pantry of secrets some FF evaporated Milk
I know we have condensed but I'm not feeling sugar shock at the Moment!

I will say this satisfies my yen for hot cereal without any nasty carb craving side effects
  • oh i love quiona.... can't wait till I can have it again.
  • I was at the grocery store a couple weeks ago and I noticed "quinoa hot cereal" in the cereal aisle and the ingredients were... quinoa. I was amused. I usually eaten quinoa savory but I've used a lot of various grains for breakfast. Amaranth is another good one if you want creamy since it is almost like cream of wheat but has a good amount of protein.
  • Nelie that's the next thing I want to try
I like quinoa b/c most "Hot cereal" grains make me crave and I think wheat and I aren't the greatest friends
  • I don't do well either with traditional cereal grains. Another thing I bought that is interesting is Soy Grits. I know many people avoid soy for various reasons but it makes a good occasional breakfast/snack/whatever once in a while.
