Trying to undo 35 yrs of unhealthy choices

  • Hello all. I just turned 35 and like the title says, I'm trying to fix all of the unhealthy choices I've been making for all these years. I'm on day 3 of this "diet" or "lifestyle change" and could use all the support I can get.

My name is Josie, I started at 256.6 lbs on Monday. My goal is 160 because that is what I weighed in 1995 the day I learned I was pregnant with my oldest daughter. My biggest struggles are going to be not eating out or eating fast food, exercising, and giving up soda.

Well, it's nice to be here and I look forward to getting to know you all
  • I started at age 35 too. I just turned 40 and it feels GREAT to be living life as a slender, healthy woman. Good luck!
  • Welcome to 3FC and good luck with your goals.

    Hugs

  • Hi and welcome to 3FC! Just take it slow because Rome was not built in a day so your changes should come gradually and take time to make changes. Maybe only have a soda once a week? Walk around the neighborhood 5 minutes a day? Eat fats food once a week? (lol I meant to type "fast food" not "fats" but I guess that typo fits in well) Just slowly but gradually change your habits so it becomes easy and not hard because you changed everything so fast.
  • Welcome and congrats on starting a new healthy way of eating! Good luck to you!
  • Hey, Josie, welcome! I am glad you are joining us. The healthy choices you are making will have a big impact on your weight and your sense of well being.

I wish you the best on your weight loss journey!

    Cheers,

    J
  • Thank you all!
  • Welcome!

You've come to the right place for support. I love these ladies already. Look at it this way, you've already lost over a pound, just concentrate on the next pound. Take it one step at a time because the big picture can be overwhelming.

PS, I'm a big fat cheater who constantly drinks Diet Cherry Dr Pepper. I know it has to go at some point, but I'm not ready to give it up yet, so don't beat yourself up and try to get rid of everything at once!
  • Welcome to the forums! I'm new here also and hope to enjoy my stay!
  • 35--I also had fast food addiction..know what I did? I quit going ALL TOGETHER. I promised myself not to do it. I promised myself to keep driving past every single window. Maybe you could do the same with soda--maybe move towards C. Light or something? You can do this. I started @ age 37!
  • Hi and welcome!!

I started my journey even later (& heavier) - at age 42.

I had HORRENDOUS, just horrendous eating habits. I gave up foods that I literally thought I couldn't live without. Trouble was, I wasn't living very well WITH them.

Making the decision to lead a healthy lifestyle was the best decision I have ever made. I was shocked and amazed at the things I was able to give up just upon DECIDING to give them up. I was even more shocked at how I grew to love and crave all the healthy foods that I ADDED in. Gave up some foods - ADDED in others. MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better ones. That taste fantastic and are fantastic FOR ME.

I'm sure you too will be amazed by this journey. Don't dread it. Get excited about it. Because it's an incredibly lovely way to live.

You CAN do this. I am certain of it. I look forward to hearing of your success!
  • oo yes fast food is definitely a struggle to me too . i will tell you this though i too was a soda addict but when i realized how many calories in sodas i was drinking on a daily basis was over 500! i had to make a change
i have switched to diet and coke zero and you know what ive gotten to the point to where it doesnt taste any different! CRAZY HUH??
so if i can do it you can do it too

good luck to you! you will reach your goal!
