I thought I had it figured out!

  • Now I'm confused... with calorie counting. I decided since I'm over 200lbs that I'd start at 1800 like suggested. A calorie tracker type thing on WEBMD says I need 1896 calories for my body to do it's most basic functions (I know this is to be taken lightly seeing how it is a calorie tracker thing online).

I do about 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise daily which I estimate burns anywhere from 300-400 calories...

So I guess my question is: Am I doing this right? What do you all think? Why am I so confused all of the sudden, haha.
  • as long as 1800 calories is less then what you were consuming before you started your diet and your working out daily then your doing it right =)
  • I think 1800 Especially with the exercise is a super number!

I use the calorie calculator on www.freedieting.com

You should start seeing those results promptly!
  • I'd say it is definantly less! We got to the point where we were literally going out for food twice a day for lunch and dinner...

Thanks for that website! The meal plan for the 1800 range actually sounds pretty good!
  • According to that website:

    Maintenance: 3543 Calories/day
    Fat Loss: 2835 Calories/day
    Extreme Fat Loss: 2126 Calories/day

And that's with my current weight and daily exercise/physical job
I'm a dog groomer so I need to be able to lift, hold, carry, bend, twist and be quick!
  • Its a great site britt~So 1800 would be extremely/ extreme loss then ~so you should see results first week!!!!!

I started at 1400(got the ok from my doctor now I am at 1300 from adjustments.)

Let us know how everything goes for ya.
  • I sure hope so, I've put more determination into this than ever before. I just finished my 30 min power sculpt - didn't feel as hard... seemed somewhat easy.. I haven't weighed myself since I started, which I plan to do Sunday.
  • This might be the dissenting vote. Because I have been studying alot and one of the MAIN things I've learned is that you should NOT eat below your BMR. Check out...

    that's just one place....

    good luck

Thanks for giving me that website. I checked it out and and it says I should consume 2,314 calories/day... and that's under moderate exercise 3-5 days a week. I can only assume that with the amount of exercise it will create the all important calorie deficit.
  • Right, the idea is you do want a calorie deficit but it shouldn't be too large because eventually your body will realize you're starving it (giving it less than it needs just to operate and start slowing down your metabolism.) Also what I like about those guys is they say...if you eat like the skinny person you want to be, you will become that skinny person. So if someone who weights 150 eats 2300 calories to maintain that weight....then if you eat 2300 calories you will slowly get to 150. It just seems so healthy.

  • That makes sense, thank you :-)
