The disadvantages to shrinking:

  • I have these pants that are super-comfy. They've gotten too big around the waist, but not so big around the lower part of my belly to really justify putting them away into the maternitywear box.

I've been using a pedometer lately, trying to average about 9,000-14,000 steps per day. Because of my belly, I have to find just the right place on each piece of clothing for it to work properly. On these pants, this place is on the waistband over towards my left hip.

But the waist of the pants are too big! So I got home from the grocery store yesterday, and realized my pedometer is GONE! I'm very frustrated at this point as hubby and I have been having pedometer issues and I seriously don't want to spend more money on another one. Finally, I realize as I stand up that there's something hard against my belly, just above where the pants start to tighten up, so to speak. I reach down into my pants, and find my pedometer. It had flipped, flipping the waistband inside my pants and the pedometer had just fallen in against my undies!

Now, don't get me wrong--I'm perfectly happy to have pants be looser as my stomach is THE problem area for me. But with the good comes the mildly irritating!
  • I remember when I finally had to give up on my very favorite pair of pajama pants. They were a 2XL and I think I didn't get rid of them until I was almost at goal...they were falling off of me, literally, despite the elastic.

I miss the pants, but not the fat! So I bought myself a similar pair in a much smaller size.

I'm glad I'm not the only one holding on to favorite clothes. I have a pair of cut off sweatpants that I just can't give up yet, even though I can now fit my whole body into one pant leg. Luckily there's a drawstring so I can still keep them up, but truthfully they look ridiculous on me. Of course I would never wear them outside and only put them on while doing major housecleaning (especially when it involves doing all of my laundry), but I just can't stand to toss them. If only they would shrink!
  • Mandalinn, I know what you mean about loving

There are 3 clothing pieces in my closet that I LOVE and that were really good bargains that I plan to take to a tailor at certain points in the wl journey. Everything else I'll just say buh-bye to, though I hope that I'll have a chance to wear them as maternity clothes some day. (I have perpetual finger cramps from all the crossing).
  • LOL - - I have a favorite pair of jeans that I have given away twice and then begged the people to let me have them back because "if I wear a belt I can probably keep them on". I think I'm going to have them tailored when I hit goal. If the idea of outgrowing my favorite jeans can't keep me at goal (once I get there) nothing will, lol.
  • i have a pair of AMAZING pajama pants from victorias secret (that cost $69 not to mention). i can barely keep them on any more. if i go up or down stairs in them they start sliding down even tho theyre elastic. i will be SAD to see them go, but happy to be too small for them and not too big!
  • My Pedometer is made by Oregon , I got it online and it cost less than $5. I forgot to take it off my jeans and it went through the washer and dryer.....it still works !
  • Thankfully, I wore a lot of clothes too tight -- so my favorite shirts are just loose now.
  • I had an emotional moment when I put my favorite sweatshirt, and my favorite suit in the Goodwill bag.

But, I gotta tell you - I then went and found replacements. And now - I have new items that I love as much - or MORE! In fact - I have way too many that I love
  • I am just THRILLED to give up every single thing that's too big! I don't miss any of them!

Now, when I can wrap my favorite pink suede jacket around me three times, and have to get rid of it...I'll miss it a little bit. This will be our last winter together.
  • I have a huge, comfy purple sweater that I wear around the house in the winter months. It's long and loose and has buttons down the front....like a big, soft, purple hug. My sister HATES that sweater and she teased me when I stayed with her on the weekend. When I put on my jammies, I put the sweater over them and she started screaming with laughter, and finally choked out, "Your sweater has BOOB HOLES!" And I looked.....sure enough, there are stretched-out spots on the front where my boobs used to go! LOL.

Lucky for me, it's an around-the-house sweater so I'll keep it. But I did almost walk out of my pajama pants the other night, so it'll be time for new jammies soon.
  • A lot of my once favorite t-shirts are now unpleasant to wear because they've become so baggy! I feel like a big slob whenever I try them on. I've also had the pedometer problem. I don't like the way it protrudes underneath my well fitting shirts; I feel like I have a cancerous growth. It sometimes will leave a red mark on my hip where I wear it. I found this great looking pedometer watch that I'd really love to try!
