I am beginning tomorrow. AGAIN

  • Hi,
I am going to try this again. I plan on beginning again tomorrow 9/8/09. I am going to try calorie counting this time and walking everyday. I haven't set a goal yet. I don't want to set a goal because if I don't reach it I will just give up.

I am hoping since I have place to come for support and accountability I can do this time. I hope to make some great cyber friends along my weight loss journey.

    Wish me luck!!
  • You CAN do this!
Setting a goal is OK, but I found that I can NEVER make it a time-bound goal.

And, I love mini-goals too! Why not set a goal of 10 lbs?

Calorie counting is a GREAT way to go. No forbidden foods, and it can transition well into maintenance. I absolutely LOVE calorie counting!!
  • Congratulations! You've taken the first step, and there will be many people here to support you.

I've just joined as well, so we'll be walking this path together. I believe in the KISS principle when it comes to losing weight, so your plan to count calories and walk every day fits right in to that. I can tell you that I lost weight counting calories many years ago, and I'm happy to see that with all the different options today that this method is still so popular - and so successful! I'm doing the same thing, but also trying to follow the Mediterranean style of eating along with it, as that is what my doctor has suggested.

I'm also walking every day. Daily exercise is my biggest downfall, but I need to do this not only for my looks but now for my health, and that is a big motivating factor, believe me! I walk on an elevated track at the YMCA, and even though I have lots of other exercise options open to me there, right now I'm not ready to tackle them. Later, perhaps, but not right now.

Know that you can do this, and you will be successful.

Best of luck to you, and keep posting!
  • Congrats, you can do it!
  • Welcome aboard!

Way to go on taking the first step towards a healthier lifestyle. Calorie counting and walking are what I do, and it absolutely works.

Just take it one day at a time.
  • woohoo! your first day on a journey to the "new" you! good luck! you can do it!
  • Yesterday is today, come tell us how it's going
  • Woohoo, congrats on taking the first steps! (Again!)

Maybe setting "action goals" rather than "results goals" would be good for you. It's certainly not necessary, but rewards can be very motivating. Maybe you can give yourself some sort of reward after a certain number of days within your ideal range of calories, or number of minutes or miles of walking.

That said, I'm a strong believer that motivation is a nice bonus, but is pretty overrated - you need to dedicate yourself to working toward a healthier you, every day, even when you don't want to. Some days you have to ignore your moods and emotions and just do what you know is right.
  • To anyone who is stuggling!
    Hi,

You CAN do it! Take one day at a time. Take the stairs instead of and elevator or escalator. House clean....vaccuming is great exercise. Drink your water and watch your portion controls. Sometimes we even have to take one HOUR at a time. It will get easier......Research some new and healthy recipes.

    Good luck!
