Need help, losing weight now!

  • Ok, so I made a commitment that I would lose weight after Labor day weekend. I really am going to do it, I'm tired of being overweight. Any tips or advice you guys have for me would be much appreciated, thanks!
  • My advice, make a plan that fits your lifestyle and commit to it 150%.
  • Welcome! My advice is read, read, read. There are lots of forums here and you are sure to find at least one where you feel right at home. I find that when my resolve is weakening, a trip to the "Goals" forum to look at before-and-after pics is very helpful because it reminds me that this is a very achievable thing I'm trying to do.

So kick off your shoes, have a seat, and browse around!
  • Both of those are great suggestions! I would add that you should think about purging foods from your house that you think will cause you problems!

8 months later and i still have to do this. if its here, i WILL eat it. my hubby hides all the good stuff for him and my son (cookies, etc). purge your house, pick a plan like calorie counting, south beach, or whatever and commit!

i am a calorie counter because i feel like its the most flexible and reasonable plan for my life, but everyone is different.
  • Great advice above! I also like calorie counting. I think accountability is important so using a site like Fitday or thedailyplate really helped me be accountable to myself for my food and exercise choices.

And - if you do decide on calorie counting - a food scale is a MUST!

    You CAN do this!
  • For me, I started by figuring out WHY I was overweight in the first place (Wendy's, 3x per day because of ignorance of how bad the food was for me), and making THAT change first. For some women, it's eating junk in the home or for others, it is neglecting basic exercise (such as walking across the street). Start with the root cause and work your way up.

WHY are you overweight? What can you do to change it? It really isn't as simple as "eat less, move more" for someone with a problem.
  • Welcome and good luck~!
my tip is to utilize the accountability catagories!!! when you know you have to type and report your foods and exercise...you think about your choices....kind of like turning in homework!!
Dont think about how bad you feel about "letting yourself go"...
but where will you be in a week/month/year!
    a goal!!!!!!!
  • Hi!

My two best pieces of advice are:

    1. Stay positive. No matter what.

    2. Drink more water. Give up soda.

    Best wishes!
