Cupcakes killing my SOUL....

  • It's a co-worker's birthday today, and to celebrate we wanted to do a cake. Well, there's no bakery in my town, and I'm the only one who bakes...so I was elected. I chose to make chocolate peanut butter cupcakes (chocolate cakes, cream cheese/peanut butter filling and a vanilla peanut butter icing). I made it through ALL last night without eating a SINGLE one (my husband said they're good though). Then today everyone went to the back for the little "party." And all ate cupcakes, except me...

I can't eat 'em because of my calorie needs for the day, not to mention the fact that that much sugar makes my blood sugar totally crash.

I ate a slice of provalone cheese instead. Still not a cupcake...kinda sad...and whining a lot, huh?

    I'll survive..just wanted to share...
  • Maybe next time you can make a reduced sugar version? I know some Betty Crocker mixes come in reduced sugar, as well as icing.

It must be PB and Chocolate time. Yesterday we had a cake for a co-worker and it was Chocolate with PB cream cheese icing, lol. I had a small piece and just had a small dinner to compensate.
  • I'd squeeze one in (sugar or no!) if I knew what was going to happen with supper tonight...I've got to go out of town to cover a football game for work, and may or may not have time to get a good dinner at home in before I leave. So it may be on the road instead, which allows no cupcake room...grrr....
  • Why don't you save yourself one, and have it be a weekend treat for when you can factor it in to your calories ?
  • Well, just got screamed at over a story I ran in the paper this week...my first thought was "I need a cupcake!" But I resisted....go me...

Went home instead and ate lunch, then had 1/2 cup of sliced peaches (light-60 cal) on a small little pound-type cake (80 cals) with a little sugar-free cool whip. Maybe that took care of the sugar craving enough to get me through the day...

OH, but I WILL save a cupcake for the weekend...Oh yes I will...
  • Hey, good for you! If I was making them, it would be so difficult not to eat 5 let alone the resistance you showed!!!!

Next time you get elected to bake, experimentg with low-cal low fat ones Cookies made with applesauce, or non-fat banana muffins with a little dark chocolate drizzle. It's surprising how much we can 'cheat' when baking! Your co-workers will just have to deal with it!!!!
  • Congrats on the willpower! It's amazing!

For next time, HungryGirl has lots of cupcake recipes, many of which are under 200 calories. Maybe you could give them a try?? I went to a friend's house and made some to bring along, that way i would be able to have dessert too!

But again, I admire your willpower!
  • I'll look at the low-cal stuff next time, for sure! I thought about something with banana, but one of the co-workers is deathly allergic to 'em....

    Hungry Girl here I come...
  • For me... it's not cupcakes.

Today someone brought in this wicked chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting that's sitting in a bed of gooey caramel sauce.

    I will resist!
  • Good job resisting, sounds like you had lots of oppurtunities to give in!
  • Grrr! Add to my temptation:

Another department just brought over a CART FULL of various pies/cakes (around a dozen) to welcome us to the new building. What the crap! It's going to be a bad cranky Friday!
  • You can do it! My temptation is still here...my husband kept some of my PB Chocolate cupcakes at home, and there's 4 of them left to tempt me 'til I can work one in, and there are still 8 here at work!!
  • What is it about Friday and people bringing stuff to the office!? I understand we all want to celebrate that its the weekend, but you're ruining my prospect of eating fun over the weekend if you bring donuts into work on FRIDAY. grr.
