Well... I am back!

  • And this time with a vengeance!

    A little intro...

    Back in 2007/2008 I lost 130lbs on Herbal Magic, went from 330lbs to 200lbs... well then food and self control got the best of me and I have re-gained 90lbs! SO, I need you ladies and gents to help motivate me back...

    I can't afford another 5 grand to go on Herbal Magic again... so I am going to be doing atkins. One of my girlfriends has had major success and it has been a long time thing. I will also be using that gym membership I have been paying for!

    One thing I have done is put a picture of myself from last year on my desktop and put the quote "nothing tastes as good as thin feels" on the picture and I will be a constant reminder to myself of how I want to be and stop being a lazy @$$!

    So if anyone has any extra tips.. that would be great!

  • Welcome back! The quote "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels" is what has motivated me from the beginning. I always say that when people try to tempt me with food and it works! Good luck and much success this time!

    But oh dear, Atkins scares the heck out of me. Losing weight is a lifestyle change. How long can you possibly go without eating bread, potatoes, and dessert? I've also had many many many friends have good luck with atkins too.... until they ate a slice of bread and gained all the weight back. Please do your best to incorporate a balanced diet, and forget all these fad diets... I'd hate to see you yoyo.

    From what I've read so far Wannabeskinny there are different phases where you re introduce all those fine items at one point.... so here is to hoping!

    That is very true so don't listen to the naysayers.

    I have done Atkins myself and I physically (and mentally once I got past the sugar/starch cravings) feel my best on it. I also lost over 50 pounds and I was over 350 pounds then.

    Unfortunately, when my mother passed away in 2002, I went off the diet and regained those pounds plus more. I did NOT regain them by 'eating a slice of bread'. I ate many, many slices of bread....and chips and popcon and rice....etc...etc...etc. You get the idea. I was grieving and consoling myself with carby foods like the carb addict that I am.

    I am on Atkins again and love that I can have fresh non-starchy veggies every day. I love that I can drink fresh clean water every day and have wonderful protein sources every day. I love the fact that I can cook my eggs in a little butter if I wish. What can be so faddish about that? NOTHING!!!

  • Jnin, there are a LOT of specialty diet boards on the forum with people who can support you. There are MANY successful Atkins/carb reduction members here, just like there are SugarBusters, Sonoma Diets, Beck Diets, South Beach, just to name a few. Like the previous poster did mention, these changes aren't short-term, so if it doesn't work for you after a few months or you hate the later phases (do give every experiment a chance to work!), then modify! Most of us are still fiddling with our way of eating!
  • I don't consider myself a naysayer, everyone's body works in a different way and I respect that. I myself watch my carb intake and tend to gravitate towards complex carbs like sweet potatoes, whole grain bread, and fruits as opposed to regular potatoes, white and enriched breads, and simple sugars. I keep my portions of these very small, but I keep those foods in my life. Ok, maybe I don't drop like 5lbs a week like I did when I was on Atkins but I'm losing weight in a healthy manner and still eating ALL the foods I love (and I'm a lot more fun to be around ).

    The only reason I mentioned this is because the OP mentioned HerbaLife - don't know what this is but all "diets" are "fad diets" to my logic and jumping from one fad diet to the other is not healthy. There's only one way to be healthy: Eat well, and exercise. A bacon/egg/butter breakfast does not a healthy diet make. I'm no scientist but I did Atkins for a while and omitting fruits, vegetables, and all other fibers from your diet is a ticket to constipation.

    I wasn't on HerbaLife, I was on Herbal Magic which is a weightloss and nutrition centre. Works wonders but I could not afford to finish the program and go through the stabilization and maitenance phases therefore my old habits crept back on me.. lol

    I also lost a big chunk of weight a couple of years back and then slowly regained about 20 lbs. But I can tell you it only took me regaining a fraction of the weight to know I didn't want to regain it all and now I'm back in action! I know exactly how you feel and it's best to do something about it now rather than get down on yourself and not do a thing until ALL the weight is back on!

    I tried a low carb diet (similar, but not the exact atkins plan) a little while back and it worked but I couldn't sustain it and I wasn't on it long enough to graduate to the elevated levels of carbs. This time around I'm just doing calorie counting and portion control. It's a slow struggle but then when is losing weight not? Until I've truly adopted my new eating habits as my way of life I figure it'll just have to be that way. lol

  • hey there. I do a mixture of things. I do a plan where I only eat at certain times of day. I also do a low/ high plan. ON my low days I wait to eat a little later and I eat low carb. ON my high days I eat earlier but I eat more carbs and I eat more calories. This got me off a stinking plateau.
