new gal, vegetarian

  • Hey, y'all. I figured I might as well introduce myself on the "20-somethings" forum, as it seems age-appropriate. I'm 25 years young and the carbohydrate/cheese rich "veggie" diet I've been on has started to catch up to me (along with all the late nights, cocktails and Lone Stars!)

I've also used diet pills in the past, with much short-term success, but a person can't keep that up forever. I'm afraid I've already screwed up my metabolism, though hopeful I can fix it with healthful habits. Anyone had any luck and/or stories about this they'd like to share with me?

I'm going to try the "vegetarian zone" type diet, though I'm anxious because it will require a lot more planning and cooking than I'm used to. (I imagine everyone has a story along these lines!)

Anyhow, I just wanted to say hi from beautiful Austin, Texas. If there are any other cocktail-and-music loving gals on their way to fat because of the lifestyle, or perhaps someone who could share any vegetarian-friendly tips/tricks for a high-protein meal (especially one that can be found in a restaurant!), please say hello to me. I'd love to chat about these tough times.
  • welcome! I'm not veggo - though I only eat meat a couple of nights a week. I just want to say, legumes legumes legumes. I can't get enough. still carbs, but you get so much more out of them than white bread, rice and pasta (all of which I would eat non-stop if I didn't stop myself - the convenience factor!)
I also love quorn - they do scotch eggs here that are waay better than the real thing (not too healthy, but better than the alternative). But it's tasty. I have trouble digesting meat of most descriptions so I look for other solutions.

You probably are aware of all these things already, being as you are an actual vegetarian, but hopefully we can share ideas? I'm always looking for new and tasty meat free recipes.

I'm here quite a bit and always willing to talk!

  • Hey! Welcome to 3FC!

I'm vegan, so I feel ya on the protein thing. Why not come and check out the veggie chicks section of the site? There's a bunch of recipes over there!
  • lately I've really been enjoying vetarian mock chicken cutlets (veggie patch) and veggie dogs (yves) because they're high protein/low cal and have similar taste to what they mimic. Enjoying them is a healthy alt. to somethings I crave *shrug* I think it's really easy to be a vegetarian
