The strangest thing is happening to me!

  • I have been in control for the past five full weeks. Yeah! Started the couch25K running program(amazing) and track my calories(1600-1700) on My Daily Plate. I also strength train 4 times per week rotating between upper and lower body.

So the strangest thing is happening! I have begun to shrink, especially in through my middle(upper waist) legs, and arms. I just went shopping and bought a size 12 dress. Four weeks ago I was in a 16. BUT-The scale is not really moving guys!!!!!!!!! What is going on? I stopped weighing myself for a while because I am feeling so good and seeing results, but I am so frightened when the scale does not really move much. I did not take starting measurements, only weight. I am down about 10 pounds but it does not seem to match what is happening to me. I am afraid it will never really move as I am still in the "honeymoon" phase and my body will soon be getting used to this. I would think that at my weight, I would drop big in the beginning and then taper off. Thinking of going vegetarian to help get the pounds off Any thoughts. These boards are wonderful and the support is really just so helpful. Thanks
  • I do know that a pound of muscle is smaller than a pound of fat--so if you're strength training, you may be turning fat into muscle, which will make you look smaller, but not see a change in the scale.

I'm not sure though--either way, as long as you're getting smaller, it doesn't matter! "They" all say that the scale is just one way, and not a very good one at that, to measure weight loss.
  • Thanks. You are right that getting smaller is key! I love that.

My doctor is fabulous. He has me track my food and activity on My Daily Plate and he is very supportive. I will be going back in early Dec to check my progress. He might notice I am smaller, but he will be using the scale to determine progress. I have been working so hard(but the running program I am doing makes it fun). I am so scared to not have the scale reflect it.

    So I keep going...
  • Grrrr...the dreaded doctor's office! Well, first of all, december is a long way off. Secondly, you should tell him about your weight lifting and your new, improved level of fitness. I'm sure he'll recognize the progress! If he doesn't, just pick him up to prove it to him!

    I use daily plate too!
  • Oh, that is a good one! he was an army doctor so he is very fit and knowledgable about nutrition. He is very supportive, different from doctors I have had in the past. I am going to work on putting together some minigoals. I am still a bit new to the boards(as a poster) and I have not yet figured out how to get a ticker! I have to look into that.

    Thanks again.
  • That's great to have a good doc. And from the army--he'll totally appreciate your physcial fitness!

I think for a ticker you have to have been a member for a certain amount time (I want to say two month, maybe two weeks, not sure!) and have a certain number of posts.
  • Kym- You are doing awesome! For your ticker it is 20 days and 20 posts
  • Thank you Ashlan.

I have 20 days but not sure about 20 posts. I have to post my heart out now!

Is it pretty easy to set up the tracker?
  • I just noticed I am up to a whopping 11 posts. I read so many! I will get busy typing. Maybe by weeks end I can put up a ticker.
