Is It A Diet?

  • I've been losing weight for about two weeks and I'm not on any particular program or what have you. I've been watching what i've been eating, cutting out really unhealthy things. Eating other things in moderation, eating more veggies, ect, not over eating, drinking more water. Basically common sense things. I feel like i'm not on a diet. Is that a good thing?
  • Sounds good to me.
  • sure, if its working! if it stops working you may need to re-evaluate your calorie intake or whatever, but for now it sounds good.
  • the only problem i can see at the moment is that i have pms and all i want to eat is chocolate chip cookies.
  • I hate the word diet it's LIFE STYLE CHANGE, diet is a horrid word and you are doing what we should have been doing all along but we didn't know any better, now that I am on my life style change I am doing the same thing you are , more fruit and veggies, cutting my portions and drinking more water.
  • It is a VERY good thing that you do not feel like you are on a diet!

You need to make sure you are eating in a way which you can permanently maintain. The reason so many people gain their weight back is because they go on a diet.

Keep on keepin' on! By the way, I love your avi!
  • thanks for all the help :-)
  • A rose is still a rose by any other name! Lifestyle change, journey, clean eating....they all mean the same thing....Changing your diet! We are all on a diet, whether it be a crappy diet, a healthy diet, a vegan diet, a gluten free diet. It all boils down to what you put into your body. Some of those flowery other names sound so, "Biggest Loserish".

When I was daily binge eating up to 5000 calories a day, I was on a suicide diet...didn't feel like a diet at all, but it was killing me!

Anyway, that is my not so impressive openion.
  • The word diet has definitely changed its meaning to most. I think the correct way to use the term is "My diet consists of ________". But nowadays it's come to mean something else.

I'm glad you feel that you're not ON A diet. That this is just how you eat now.

I think you are on to something. Like someone said earlier, be aware and open to the fact that down the road, you may need to do a little more calorie monitoring, tweaking and the such to keep losing steadily. For me, I can definitely, definitely, DEFINITELY over do on the "good stuff" too.

As for PMS and chocolate chip cookies. REmember, wanting something, just to want it, for the sake of having it, is no longer relevant. You must decide and remember what you want the MOST. Those chocolate chip cookies which may set you back or the fabulous sense of control and weight loss that comes with doing without that stuff. That craving WILL pass. I've never, ever not once NOT eaten something and then regretted it later. The cravings DO pass. Substitute. Have a cup of sugar free hot chocolate or hot tea. A veggie platter and some salsa. Or some other on plan food. Or better yet, get yourself busy and active.
  • You've chosen the plan that got and kept (most of the time! LOL) 30+ lbs off this bod. You go girl! These are the habits you want to shoot for no matter what you weigh but conveniently they often = weight loss too.
