First off, I hate exercise. I will go to the gym, loathe every minute of it, and then not return for two weeks to repeat the cycle.
I was in a running routine a couple of years back, but I've really dropped the ball on it and don't quite have the stamina or will to pick it up just yet. FWIW, I loved the feeling AFTER the run, so I desperately want to get back into it.
My husband and I have recently moved and now live next to a 24-hole disc golf course. We've been going a few times a week since we moved in.
Yesterday, I decided to wear a heart rate monitor to see what kind of activity I was getting in while we played. I burned 476 calories in 1.75 hours! Just from playing a game! I have to up my calorie intake because with the disc golfing, I haven't been getting enough!
I searched for a thread about this and didn't find one, so forgive me if this is a repeat. But, if you're looking for a fun, lower-impact way to get your heart rate up in the effort to build stamina - try it out! It's fun, almost always FREE and easy for all ages. I've improved my game like, 80% since we began a few weeks ago.
I don't have the post credibility to give you a link for a course finder, but if you put PDGA course directory into google, it's the first link.
Thanks for letting me share!
LOL, I was thinking, wow, I've never heard of golf usually being free, then I saw you said disc golf. Is that kinda like frisbee, but with goals/baskets?

Exactly! You could even use a regular frisbee to start, although you may want to invest in the proper discs eventually. They're pretty cheap - about $10-15 for a set of three (which will usually give you a long range driver, short range drier and a putter).
Seems a bit silly with all of the disc types, but I get more motivated to do things once I've made a purchase.
Disc golf is SUPER fun!! There is a course only a few blocks from us. One of our friends is aiming for the pro's next year. I'm horrible at it, but I walk along and throw every couple of holes. My putting isn't bad though.

Two weeks ago I was horrible. Then I watched a couple of youtube videos regarding "drives" and that's really how I've improved so much.
When we started I was bad to the point of embarrassing. Now, I'm hanging in there!
How often do you go? Have you noticed any weight loss?? or muscle improvement in your arms?

We've only stepped it up to a really active level this week, but we've gone every day. Before we'd just sort of play a few holes leisurely.
Now that we're playing the whole course and I know it's a good workout, I'll keep track and let you know!
