Going to try calorie counting after being on WW

  • Hey all!

Just here to say that after trying WW and loosing about 14 lbs I am thinking I am going to try calorie counting now. I have a feeling this might be a bit of a better fit for myself. I am 5'3" and currently weight about 148 lbs. I am gonna try 1200 calories a day and see how it goes. Wish me luck...any tips??
  • I have been doing 1200 from about 160 to my current weight of 135ish. I have never been on WW so can't really help with the transition.
  • I'm an old-style calorie counter. Just keeps life simple. My top tip is to plan your meals in advance whenever possible, because its easy to go over your allowance when you grab something in a hurry, estimating it's cals, and read the nutritional info later
  • I agree with Jude. I did WW, too and many others and find Calorie Counting works best for me.
  • I have done both.I have found that the only difference is that I use a calorie book instead of WW slider. It is pretty much the same theory.
  • Plan
I agree that planning ahead makes things so easy. I started calorie counting 2 months ago and have lost about 25lbs so far. I'm much heavier than you, so I do 1300 - 1500 cals a day (mostly 1300). I've done so many different diets and always thought calorie counting would be too much trouble. It really is easier than I thought.
  • Instead of just aiming for 1200, give yourself a range. It's easier to stay within a range than at a specific number.

If you haven't checked out Sparkpeople yet, you might look into their program, they set very doable ranges.

I aim for 1300-1800 cals a day, and some really are low days and some days I'm just hungrier and eat more.

I too did WW many times and am a lifetime member also. I do believe it's the best "commercial" program out there, but there is so much more about nutrition a person can learn, especially a person who really gets into exercise and strength training.

Good luck with calorie counting, I've done it now for 10 weeks and am doing great.
  • I'm right there with ya. Been doing weight watchers, and am trying to switch over to calorie counting. So far it's been going well Good luck in your transition
  • I did WW a long time and I much prefer calorie counting. The only thing I liked about WW over CC is that you have those meeting and you feel more accountable.

I would suggest you start out a little higher in calories though. Your at the bottom with 1200 and so if you dont loose weight on 1200 you cant go down any further. I would suggest 1400-1500 hundred and then go down if you need to. This is a good calculator to use.

    Good luck!
  • calorie counting is the only thing thats ever worked for me. its much easier when you're just working with numbers, lol. my tips would be to measure everything carefully! its amazing how many extra calories you can take in just by eyeballing something, or by grabbing 2 or 3 potato chips here and there! i used to think that stuff like that was basically nothing and not worth keeping track of, but 20 calories here and there all day adds up fast.
  • If you are going to do the 1200 calories a day I would suggest working out at least 300 calories each day and then add those into your diet to eat 1500 calories a day.
  • You could count the calories on a typical day of WW. Just to see about how many calories you have been consuming and then adjust it from there.
