Any Bingers with past history of anorexia?

  • I think I can track the beginnins of my bingeing to when I was first recovering from anorexia, nearly 11 years ago. My therapist said that it was normal in the "recovery" phase of anorexia to start bingeing madly when reintroducing food and that it would "taper out". Unfortunately, it never had. I have experienced months and years where it has certainly been on the backburner, but the past year, I would certainly classify myself as a binge eater.

I was first stunned to find that I could go from anorexia to binge eating disorder and was curious to find out if any others were dealing with this? Granted, it has been a long time since I was diagnosed with anorexia, but I never expected to make the shift from not eating to eating far too much!
  • Me too. :-( Went from anorexic (age 16) to binge eater (age 18) to atypical bulimia (age 20). It`s just the same thing (an eating disorder) with a different face, I suppose, but I remember that I sometimes wished I could go back to being anorexic.
  • I'am so glad you posted this thread... I can think back to middle school where my eating disorder began. I didn't have many friends and the relationship between my mother and I was extremely shaky. She was very domineering so food was the only thing i could control. It lasted well out of high school. Nobody noticed especially my mom until i got into my early 20s .. I'm 5'11 and at that time i weight 134lbs.. that's beyond underweight for my height .. SHe was terrified ... anyway you treat your body bad and eventually it comes back to haunt you.. I have an especially harder time to lose all of the weight i put on from binging on food because of the damage i caused to my body..
