  • I notice a lot of you use iPhone apps for counting your calories. So far I'm happy with my old-fashioned journal, but I would be interested in seeing what I can get on the iPhone.

What app do you use? Was it free? Likes, dislikes?
  • Well i just downloaded Lose It! on my iPhone the other day. I heard about it from some people on here, and it is free. The only thing I do not like about it is that it has my daily calorie level set to 1200 if I want to reach my goal. Although it does "give" you calories back to eat when you log your exercise, it freaks me out a little because I do not exercise every single day... I went to the daily plate and entered all the same info and according to them I can eat up to 1670 (without adding my exercise for the day) and still reach my goal in the same amount of time. I still do not eat that much I try to stay in the 1500 calorie range, but 1200 scares me because I am nowhere near my goal and when I lose another 15 to 20 lbs I will have nowhere for my calories to go if I hit a plateau. Anyway, it is really handy for searching for the calories in certain foods and it is a really easy way to track your progress if you actually enter everything in every day. Hope this helps a little!
  • I also downloaded Lose It! a few days ago, and so far I'm enjoying it.

fashinjunkie - it set my calorie limit at about 1250, which is a bit lower than I have been aiming for, but you can adjust your daily calorie target in the Goals section. I bumped it up by 100 calories.
  • Lose it! here too. I also got a lower calorie level on Lose It than on another website. Lose it has me at 1600, I don't remember the other website, but it said 1800+. So I am trying to just make sure I stay somewhere in between and I haven't been eating back my excersise calories. I just don't enter them on Lose it. I want to have somewhere to go if/when I plateau
  • I use the free Lose It! app. It has me at 1,485 calories a day. I like it, it makes me feel accountable and since i have my phone with me all the time, it's handy.
  • Lose it here too! I usually log my food into the bodybugg site, but my hubby drag races and there's no internet there so I use Lose It on the weekends I go with him so that I don't forget anything.

oh cool i was wondering if there was a way to do that, i hate entering my foods for the day and having it tell me im over and in the red on days i do not exercise! lol
  • I've been using mynetdiary.com since September. Yes, you have to pay for it but I LOVE it and couldn't imagine losing without it.
  • Not helpful but I actually wish I remembered a little more programming from my school days and had access to a mac because I would *love* to write a calorie tracking app. My sister has a restaurant recommender where you put in the dollar range you're interested in and if you want a specific cuisine and shake it and it recommends something. I want something similar for calorie ranges. I want to spend 400 calories on lunch. Make a recommendation. There'ld be an awful lot of databasing involved with it but it would rock.

As it is I just keep a written list of the calories of my favorite foods and restaurants in a paper notebook.
  • I downloaded the free Lose It! program, but the app I use is Edibles. I love it, it can be configured for a variety of diet programs and it sync's with their website so I can browse through my log files easily. It did cost $4.99 but I think it's a steal at that price.

(there's a link in my sig if you wanna check it out)
  • Thanks everyone! Believe it or not, I just checked my iPhone and saw Lose It in my group of apps, so I must have downloaded it awhile ago and forgot about it! I think I will try it for awhile to see if I like using an app at all (normally I love electronic gadgets but for some reason I've enjoyed keeping my written log, I just know that eventually it's going to get old especially since I tend to eat the same foods over and over). Then I may check out some of the others. Lissus, I like Edibles, it sounds pretty cool.
  • even though i have the app i still keep a notebook, i love it!
  • Another vote for Lose It! too! I love it!! I started with it 5 1/2 weeks ago and since using it i'm down 15lbs... my calorie level started higher than it is now, i'm at about 1318 cals or something? But even that I have a hard time meeting.. I don't eat nearly enough most days.. Not on purpose, i'm just not hungry. Anyways.. it's super convenient for me, so it gets my vote too.
  • I've been using Lose it! too It's actually what got me started with calorie counting. I even got an (initially skeptical) coworker to try it, too, and he's lost over 14 lbs in under a month.

I changed my weekly goal for loss to 1.5 lbs per week when I felt that the goal was too low (under 1200). That seems more reasonable for me at this point, anyway. But I never eat all my exercise calories, either.
  • Lose it for me too! I love it!
