Does anyone know am I over working my arms?

  • I've been doing weight training and started aquafit last week and my arms were tired near the end of the week and would get sore, achey and burn. Am I over working my arms now that I've added the resistance of the water? For weight training I'm using the push pull method one on tues and one on thursday and aqua fit on mon and fri but last week it was four days consecutively with the weights and aquat fit.
  • Well as long as you give yourself a day rest in between the arm workouts you should be okay- soreness is normal, you just keep going (unless it's actual pain). I wouldn't recommend doing that stuff everyday if you are feeling soreness- your muscles need some time to recouperate
  • It's pretty common for people who are just starting a new weight/resistance exercise routine to feel quite a bit of muscle soreness, especially two days after the stressor. It even has a name and acronym: DOMS, or Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness.

DOMS will start to go away in time, as your body gets more accustomed to this kind of (good) stress. I get much less sore after lifting now than I did when I first started, even though I'm still working really hard at the gym, increasing my weights, trying out new exercises, etc.

OTOH, if you feel *joint* pain, rest it, and check your form. Joint pain usually won't just "go away" with time.

    Be strong,
    Kim
