**Just a couple questions**

  • I hope I'm not getting annoying with all my "questions" posts, but I need a lot of help! hehe

So I've tried counting calories before, and it definately did work for me, my only issue is how do you count calories when you go out? Or when you eat something at home, like say a peice of fruit or something. Is there a website you can use to count them? Or do you know of a way to figure it out?

Thank you for all your help and support!!!

  • FitDay, CalorieKing, The Daily Plate are all websites used for calorie counting.
Restaurants often have there nutritional information available online or in the restaurant.

CalorieKing puts out a book that has calorie listings for many restaurants.

A scale helps for measuring at home since things like apples can vary greatly in weight.
  • I love Calorie King, you can get the book and carry it with you all the time.
It has loads of calorie counts including fast foods, restaurants and ethnic food. The Calorie King Fat and Carbohydrate Counter is the book, you can also go online to www.CalorieKing.com and there are many other sites on the internet that can give you calorie counts.
  • Chain restaurants usually have their calorie counts online or you can find them at Calorie King or The Daily Plate. Where I have a little more trouble is independant, local places. For instance, if I get takeout from my local BBQ place, I have no idea what the calorie count of their heavenly cornbread is. I can look up cornbread online, but I suspect theirs is a lot more because it seems very heavy and dense. In those kinds of situations, I just look up similar items and make the best guess I can.

I actually tend to eat the same things over and over so it becomes easier. I don't go out a lot because I can't depend on counting the calories correctly!
  • I use sparkpeople, which also has an iPhone app for when you are out and about.

I plan my meals, just like I would plan a financial budget - this is how much I have to spend, this is what I want and need, how does that fit in there, what are the best choices I can make so I'm feeling good and not going into debt?
