Im a newbie!

  • Hey y'all!
This is my first time on this site and am very happy I found it! I had a very traumatic experience happen a year ago this week, and the stress of it has contributed to my gaining 60 pounds. I never even thought it was possible to gain that much weight in a year, but evidently it is. I was 180 pounds a year ago. While I was curvy, but healthy, I always had wanted to lose about 20 pounds and get more in shape, which is why Ive decided my goal should be 160 pounds. I need to stop making excuses and do it!

My dad isnt the most supportive person. He actually suggested gastric bypass to me a week ago. Not that I have any issue with those who choose to get this done, but Im 21 years old and while Im overweight, I wouldnt consider such extreme measures. The comment kinda stung and I just decided enough is enough.

Ive tried dieting before, and failed. I really hope I meet people on this site that can support me through this journey and who I can help along too!

Today was day 1 of a strict low-carb regimen. If anyone has any advice or recipes, Id love to hear them!

  • Hi Chrissy and

I think alot of people can attest to the fact that it is possible (and actually quite easy) to gain 60 pounds in a year.

I lost most of my weight on my own, and last fall started regaining it on my own. 20 pounds in 6 months.

I now realize I need a support group. My family members mean well, but I need the support and understanding of others like myself. I have done quite well since signing on here. I am following South Beach and there is a great group there who check in daily.

You might peruse the South Beach lifestyle since you are already cutting down on the carbs on your own. South Beach recommends two weeks pretty much carb and sugar free, which for me got rid of alot of cravings. I am now on Phase 2, which reintroduces good carbs. For me, it is an acceptable life plan. There is a whole area there dedicated to recipes, too.

Best wishes and I look forward to seeing you around.
  • Welcome to 3FC! Good luck on your weight loss journey!
  • Hi Chrissy and welcome!

Have you found the low carb threads?
  • Hey, girl! My name is Christina. I'm also 21, 5'8" and in the 240s. Welcome! I'm calorie counting to lose my baby weight. Good luck!
  • Hi Chrissy, welcome!

I know how you feel with the unsupportive family - it's one of the reasons I joined this site also - the fact that I needed help from people who are going through the same things.

There's certainly a lot of support and inspiration to be found here, so make use of it and you will feel motivated in no time

There's a thread around here somewhere about comments that people have had about their weight that you would find funny, as there are a lot of the well-meaning, yet insulting kind lol, keep an eye out for it.
