  • Now that we count calories, probably some of us stopped having a specific food as it is high in calories. Maybe you are having a small bite of it now to stop craving (which doesnt work with me as to stop craving because I just keep wanting more! ) But lets say, what is the food you mostly miss? It can be anything!
  • Honestly, there's nothing. Because counting calories means, theoretically, that all foods are allowable, I never, ever have the feeling of missing something. I sometimes weigh up do I want a small piece of X at XXX calories or a gazillion of Y at XXX calories but, because I still tend to the greedy, I always go for the gazillion.
  • My favourite junk food....Smartfood popcorn. It is a binge trigger for me so I cannot have it. I learned that the hard way.
  • candy and cakes- somethings I just can't handle without eating 3,000 cals of them.

canadian woman- Smartfood's a big one for me too.
  • I miss Indian and Eritrean food. I used to eat it regularly but till I get down to my goal and I am on maintenance levels of calories I just can't have any. If I didn't have a deadline for reaching goal I wouldn't mind taking longer but I need to be as good as possible.

I also miss beer and wine. I used to have one with dinner every night and now I only have it rarely.
  • I don't think I've really stopped eating anything. I've just stopped eating them less often. I used to eat a piece of cake or pie every day! Now I have a piece of cake once a month or so, and make sure it's not humongous. I love calorie counting because I can still have anything I want, so long as I portion size. It's this very feeling that DOES allow me to not feel deprived.
  • I miss Indian food, too. It's very rich. We did get takeout recently and I just had the tiniest plate, which worked out fine. But to go to the Indian buffet for lunch? Ahhhh.... that would be wonderful.

I also miss really junky candy. Good & Plenties, jelly beans, skittles, etc. I just can't eat it -- too much of a trigger. That's really been the only big change that I've made. Otherwise, I've always eaten a pretty healthy diet, although portions were probably too big.
  • well, as for today... I miss cookies... I am saying it because I just saw a plate of cookies at the lunch room... and had to walk away from it...
So now I kinda crave it... And keep thinking how good it taste cookie dough and fresh baked cookies... yummy....
    I'll be fine...
  • When I'm at my sister's house, I have a really hard time resisting the chips and homemade salsa with avocado in it. And I haven't been resisting
  • Regular bacon, and tons of it. I cannot even eat it now since bariatric surgery.
  • Ive learned the best way for me to not miss anything, is learn how to make my old fatty favorites a new, healthier way. Ive got mac & cheese, fettucini alfredo, & lasagna down pat now after 5 months.

Although, I do agree that with CC we can allow ourselves anything, I, like Ailidh, choose alot of the lower cal option rather than something small with more calories. Its funny, because even though I know I can budget anything into my eating, Im not yet sure how to budget the guilt, thus, Ive had perhaps 3 "cheat" items (as I call them) in 5 months. I have never allowed myself 1 day of not counting.

Sorry for the ramble, and back to the original question. The 2 things I miss that I just cant seem to create low-cal: McDonalds fries & Homemade, soft, sugar cookies.
  • Oooh... I don't cut out avocados. I love them. I make guacomole without the chips. I just mush up the avocados, add in a little lemon juice, and a little salt and pepper, and I eat some (but not the whole avocado in one sitting!) I'm doing the zigzag approach and one day it calls for me to eat 2600 calories (and another like 1500) so on my highest day I am eating avocado... because it's healthy and tastes good. Someone on this board suggested it to me.
  • I don't count calories but I just wanted to say that I dearly miss chips.
  • The nice thing about Calorie Counting is that if I really want something I allow myself to have a bit. And knowing that...I haven't had many cravings for the things I used to love like French Fries. One thing really like that is high in calories is Thai food. So i've learned how to make it myself and it is a lot less calories.
  • Baking. I miss baking so badly. I love to bake from breads to cake but if I make it I'll have said baked good. I get get around the wanting baked goods buy purhasing just 1 roll or having something individually packaged and cakey but you can't make just 1 roll. I'm seriously tempted to bake a big cake and take it to work just so I can have just a slice of it. Mmmmmm
