The dreaded Foundation Garments - Need advice :)

  • Hello all!

I am going to a wedding party in June and I just bought a beautiful dress... empire waist, black net over teal satin, embroidered and floral beaded jet hemline. But it has about 1" thick black satin straps that are set far out on the shoulder, so it looks like I will need a supportive strapless bra... or maybe even a long bodysuit. Ok, maybe one that goes over my thighs too

I'm not tiny by any means: size 20, bra size 40D, measurements 48-41-54, 5'8", 254 pounds.

So, considering my (cough) "diva" size, what maker would you recommend? The famous Spanx?

Or any particular stores I should check out?

I'd like it to be comfortable too if possible, ha! And not unbearably hot, since it is a late June wedding in Baltimore, but that might be asking too much. I expect hot is the nature of the beast where loads of spandex is concerned

    Thank you very much!
    Sarah
  • Hi there! All I can think of is to go to a specialty lingerie shop and find the best supportive garments that you can find. I don't have any experience with Spanx.
    Have fun at the wedding!

  • spanx
You might not need an actual foundation garment. For a wedding last year, I needed something to hold it all in. I had a hysterectomy 7 weeks prior and I was really bloated. I bought a spanx girdle that went up to the bra line and down to my knees. I also bought spanx pantyhose. The pantyhose were way better than the girdle. I found a bra that had clear straps so that I could wear a bra without straps being noticeable. I found all of it at Lane Bryant.
