KFC Grilled Chicken

  • Finally, a healthier recipe!

KFC says each piece of its grilled chicken has 70 to 180 calories and four to nine grams of fat. The grilled chicken contains from 160 to 440 milligrams of sodium per piece, as opposed to 290 to 1,050 milligrams of sodium per piece of Original Recipe chicken. It has six herbs and spices.
  • Yeah, I've been wanting to try it, but I rarely eat fast food because I can hardly justify going out for it when I have food in the fridge here at home. I'm sure this summer I'll be trying some when I'm in Texas with my family. Has anyone tried it to see how it is?
  • Ive tried it and it was SO dry and basically just a bony wad. I was really disappointed. But it could have just been the kfc I went to.
  • Certain locations are giving out free samples this Monday, April 27. I hope to try a piece if mine is participating.
  • I've been sick (with pneumonia, we found out yesterday), and on Tuesday hubby brought home KFC for us, so he wouldn't have to cook. He brought home the grilled chicken meals for both of us. We both had leg and thigh dinners (I think our KFC tends to overcook the white meat sometimes).

    We really liked it.
  • Does it have skin on it? From the website it looked like the skin might still be on, which would be really pointless.

I find that grilled chicken is really a delicate item to cook and tend to like mine made at home better where I can really watch that it doesn't cook for longer than 3-4 mins on each side. That would be hard to control in a ff environment is my guess - I don't even really like the chicken that's grilled from restaurants. It's like 1 out of 5 times that I really like it at Longhorn, for example. Usually it's cooked on heat that's too high just to get it cooked and off the grill.

Compared to the battered chicken, it's still a huge fat savings.

Also, crispy rendered grilled or roast chicken skin is worth the extra 60 or so calories, IMO.

Kaplods, I hope you are on the mend quickly. Positive thoughts and vibes coming your way.
  • Even when I do remove the skin from chicken, I wait until after it's cooked to remove the skin. If cooked quickly and dryly very little fat is absorbed into the meat. Since this isn't a simmered meat, there's not going to be much absorption. So remove the skin if you want to (personally I chose to eat mine and count the appropriate fat servings).
  • I tried it earlier this week, and while it isn't as juicy as fried chicken, I thought it was fine for low(ish) calorie fast food. The breast, wing, green beans and potatoes with gravy were around 500 calories and that included the skin (according to the KFC nutritional info at the restaurant). Not bad for fast food - especially if you are not in the mood for salad.

Thank you so much, today is significantly better than yesterday. I would be surprised that I could notice an improvement so quickly, except that prednisone always gives me that false sense of invincibility - energy and stamina that aren't really created, so much as borrowed from the future, because the darned stuff is both wonder drug and time bomb, because it has so many nasty side effects. Still, I have to be grateful for what it can do for me in the now.
