28 Lbs Loss in a week?

  • Good day,all

I weighed myself this morning and my scale is a doctors scale. I weigh weekly and last week was at 366 and current, if this is doable, read this week at 338. 28 Lbs loss in a week?? I don't know is just water weight...or scale is not working for me.

Last week was counting calories and eating up to 4000 calories, hardly no exercise and been drinking coffee, water. Now have started fiber counting and walking 2 miles.

Should I be happy or focus on inches??
  • I dont really know dear.....that is a bit over my head.

But I want to tell you that walking 2 miles is awesome! If you keep that up you are bound to help things get moving for you.....whether its water or not. Keep that part and make small changes each week, like one change a week. Maybe then it wont seem so "all or nothin".
  • Unless you were suffering from some hideous edema last week, it would be impossible for someone your weight to lose 28 lbs in a week. Literally impossible. Get a new scale!
  • I don't even think thats possible, but hey, what do I know. But, I would definitely try finding a different scale or something, that just doesn't sound quite right.
  • if you were really bloated and retaining water, then yes it could happen. Do you notice that your feet and ankles are less swollen? I lost close to that amount in a week, but I was in the hospital and had been retaining water something fierce. Whatever the case - way to go!
  • I think you should do three things.

    1) Check the scale. That is a lot to lose in one week, unless, of course there is an underlying condition and then you should check with your physician. Also, make sure you are weighing yourself at the same time of the day to account for the daily fluxes (e.g. water, food intake, exercise, etc.). The morning is normally the best.
    2) Consider the weight on the scale, but put your primary focus on inches. As it its been mentioned over and over again, 1lb of muscle takes up 1/4 of the space of 1lb of fat.
    3) Congratulate yourself on your accomplishments. Walking two miles is great! And soon, that scale and those inches will reflect your hard work.
  • Thank you all.. I found my own answer and my scale is correct..which addition, lost 8 Lbs!!! and am 330 from 366. I am one happy camper!!

I walked 6 miles today, slow pace for 30 min,..I also treat myself with a magazine (first) and there was a study done and walking slow pace for 30 minutes daily, you lose more...and thats what am doing, plus climbing stairs.

I have issues with bloat and done a search which caused by sugar, and air. Time for me to quit smoking and snacking on apples!!!!

I feel good, I up my fiber and drinking water!! Am leading, soon hopefully on a vegeterian lifestyle.

Have a good weekend and walk!! Thank you for your support!!

  • 36 lbs in one week? Ummm... really? Wow. I honestly would not think that is possible AT ALL unless you were like SERIOUSLY retaining water before. I'm actually a little worried about you if you really have lost that much!
  • Liliann, I'm not trying to dispute what you have said, I just question a few things. I am pretty active and I walk and run at intervals from 3.5 to 6.1 on the treadmill and only get 3.5 miles in 60 minutes. Also, 36lbs in one week is alot, I mean the people on the biggest loser haven't lost quite that much before, I don't think (though I could be wrong). Like CFmama, I'm a little concerned about you, this just seems to be alot...
  • Hi Liliann,

Looking back over previous posts, it looks like you had this nearly identical issue in Jan/Feb last year. Many people suggested you get a new scale. Did you do that last year? Did that help at that time?

    Just a thought

  • L,

Keep up the positive attitude and good work!

I'm sure it was just a typo about your mileage or... that was your day's entire mileage! I think something got lost in translation.

The most WONDERFUL thing is that you are out and walking and drinking water and getting healthy. You are inspiring me to do the same! Tomorrow is supposed to be a great day. I shall report my progress tomorrow evening!

    Hugs,
    Ratkitten

PS Heather, I'll make sure to put any yard work and bike rides on exercise thread!!
  • I thought Liliann was saying she made a math error and lost 8 pounds, but I might have misunderstood...

But it sounds like you're moving around and moving down!

Feel free to join us in the exercise thread!! We need those minutes!!
  • Thank you for your concern, I am in good health and will see my medical doctor next month.

I did not get a new scale, same doctors scale that is also used by my mom and her weight is accurate.

I might went wrong on the miles. I did plenty of walking, more than 30 minutes today. I have to keep track of time. I walked between meals and when I was bored.

My boyfriend say is possible to lose that much in a week..water weight and here is an article I find that drinking extra water since am heavy set, to drink extra 8 glasses of water. I drink a 20 oz. bottle water about 8 times.

Again, Thank you for your support, concerns..

Here is a link to an article on water weight.

Why Drinking Water Really is the Key to Weight Loss
    by Maia Appleby
Don't roll your eyes! The potion for losing that excess body fat is all around you. It covers two thirds of the planet. If you eat right and exercise at the intensity, frequency and duration proper for you, but still can't get rid of a little paunch here and there, you're probably just not drinking enough water.

No need to get defensive. You're actually quite normal. Most people don't drink enough water. Most people are also carrying around a few more pounds than they would be if they did drink enough water. If you can't seem to get that weight off, try drowning your sorrows in nature's magical weight-loss mineral. It works, and here's why:

(see the link for the rest)
  • My thoughts...

It sounds to me like you dumped your water weight, which is usually lost when you start. Even if you regain some, like I have, I'll dump a lot of that when I get moving again.

For some people the water weight dump can equal around 20 pounds. Mine it was, I believe, around 13 pounds and I lost that within 4 days. It literally just fell of of me and then I lost the weight pretty rapidly since I was still over 300 pounds then.

Now I'm kind of back in the same boat. I've been retaining water and I believe I'll dump maybe 5-6 pounds of it quickly. It isn't "weight" but it is a step toward loosing my fat as retaining the water makes me feel sluggish and not wanting to be as active.
  • You go L!!

Congratz on walking when bored and between meals!!!

I'm disgusted with my body that I can gain 6lbs in 6 days during TOM. Stupid water weight.

I'm going to move today (I promise Prof H, will record in exercise thread!)
