Hey all, I need to rant a little and it does have to do with diet and weightloss, so it's relevant!
Anyways, I subscribe to US weekly, and this week's cover is about the "DWTS' diet secrets." Mind you, the women on the show are very thin (but toned). Anyways, on the cover the point on that Julianne Hough doesn't have any carbs except for drinking orange juice. How on earth is that healthy??? My friend, who is a registered dietician and nutritionist, told me that I need to be eating a little more carbs and not so much protein to lose weight (because I'm starting to exercise so much, and it's about portion control). I'm wondering how on earth someone who dances and trains for *8 HOURS* per day can only get their carbs from OJ and not faint. In the article, she talks about her only "splurge": a cup of gummy worms. Shawn Johnson (an Olympic athlete) also nixes carbs.
Why is it that these women are so terrified of carbohydrates, and especially if they're training for 8 hours per day? They need them! In this article, there are only a couple of women profiled that even seem to eat a healthy diet. It just really disappoints me because i can see eating disorder written on so many of their faces.
I can understand cutting back on carbs a little when you're dieting and not exercising so much, but when you're exercising that much, you don't need to cut back so much on carbs (I'm talking totally eliminating them) when you're already really fit and exercising 8 hours per day, five days per week.
Is it just me or does this kind of dieting seem totally absurd?
(I will say that they offer some good advice that I already knew, like eating oatmeal, fruit and veggies, yogurt, fish, grilled chicken, bananas, etc. If anything it showcased women with borderline eating disorders)
