Determination has kicked in? Or I've lost my mind.

  • Okay, I realized I was getting a migraine last night so I took my meds and went to bed. My first thought upon waking this morning was "My head is going to explode". So I went back to sleep for several hours.

Migraines have more or less controlled my life for the past 6 years. I've worked with a neurologist, taken lots of meds, etc. But this is the first time that I have really been doing everything right to prevent them. No processed foods, no dairy, no caffeine. Lots of exercise and water and enough sleep at night. So the headache in general was incredibly frustrating. And when I have a migraine, I crave sweets and junk food like nothing else. After the thought that my head was going to explode, I realized that I wanted a jelly donut. And some McDs chicken nuggets.

Today was my own proof that I've made the commitment to a healthier lifestyle. Now I didn't stick to plan 100%, coming in at 2100 calories and I didn't exercise, but I negotiated with myself. Trading the nuggets and donuts for homemade chicken noodle soup and a luna bar. I did eat a lot of potato chips because they settle my stomach, but I measured them out and put them in DietPower. I've never measured what I can eat during a bad migraine but my guess is that it would come in between 4k and 5k calories. At least.

I still feel awful with the headache but I feel good about myself for not giving in to my cravings for sugar and caffeine.

I liked zipping up a pair of pants today that I couldn't zip a week ago much more than I like donuts. I didn't realize that was possible.
  • Awesome job! Wow, you are inspiring to me!
  • I'm so happy for you! Go chickie go!
  • Way to go! I think determination can take us a long way. This thought has been reinforced after reading so many posts from the successful chicks like rockinrobin.
  • What great inspiration to start the day with! Congatulations on taking control of your life!
  • This crazy weather has been messing with my migraines too! I went weeks without one in March but April has been a different story.
  • This is a great thing to share! Congratulations!!

Hello to my life! Except it has been longer than six years. I have tried the no dairy/no caffeine thing to. Was pleased that the no dairy seemed to work well. I was getting them only once every three weeks, which was a great improvement from once to twice a week. Now they have started coming a little more frequently again - probably because I discovered Tim Horton's coffee with cream.

Anyway, this weekend I picked up some homeopathic migraine medication. I'm very curious to see if it works. I am a firm believer in homeopathic meds and am on two right now and am going to school to be a homeopath next year. I can't believe I've never tried this route before!

They are called Migraine Blocker by Source Naturals.

Congrats on your victory over junk food though - I know how hard it is when you feel sooooo terrible to resist!
