20 Somethings, should I join WEIGHT WATCHERS?

  • .
  • I'd say go for it!!! I'm relatively new to WW and I'm loving it! I'm 21 and though there are a few younger people in my meeting most are older than me. I don't really volunteer much during meetings but I feel like I get something out of having gone. I get food tips and recipe ideas just from going. And having the accountability is the most important part for me. It's what keeping me going, knowing that I'll be weighed each week.
  • I tried weight watchers a couple of times and didn't like it. I was always within my points range and never lost any weight. I don't like how they don't focus on exercise too much. It's expensive so if you wanna just get the materials, you can sign up and go for the first meeting and then quit. I didn't like going to the meetings either.
  • I heart WW.
I am 28 and I love WW. I have done it a few times and was always very sucessful while following the plan. When I stopped attending meetings and tracking I gained weight back, not the programs problem, but mine. I think you need to shop around to find a meeting that fits you. I don't have anyone around me to be a weight loss buddy so I love the group aspect of WW. I would try to go to a meeting at a center- they tend to have many meetings to try out and I think a more diverse group of peeps. My meetings has all age ranges to the very old to the very young. We have a High schooler in our meeting. There about 8 girls about me age in the meeting. We talk about all sorts of stuff, but we did talk about points for drinks, and GS cookies. My meeting is varied with people and topics and it works for me.
Oh, the prior poster said there wasn't a focus on exercise, but that is just not true. You earn points for the exercise you do so the more exercise the more you can eat- I personally don't eat activity points but in theory you could- also they encourage you to work up to earning 28 activity points per week which is about hour of activity most days. I am at about 21 per week right now. I think you should check to see if it is free registration- they always have that deal going ever few months and just check out a few different meeting times. You know when you pay for WI you can attend as many meetings for that week you want- just can only weigh once.
  • I am 26, married with no children and I think weight watchers is by far the best diet I've ever done. We have everybody from 21 year old college girls to older men and women at my meeting. I think it's great to have such a diverse group because you really see a lot of different perspectives about how losing weight it hard for everyone, no matter what situation your in or age you are. I think you should try it out. Give it a month or two and I'm sure you'll be losing weight and loving the momentum program as much as I do.
  • I have been doing WW for 8 months. I love it. I get between 5 and 7 exercise points a day. THey do talk about the exercise but it is omething you as an individual needs to decide that they want to do The meeting are very supportive and at the least keeps you on track because you know you have to weigh each week. WW is great...it allows for "Life".
  • I say go for it! I am 26 also. I do WW online because I'm not a meeting-type person. The online plan works best for my schedule. I can track my meals from my computer at work... check in daily to stay on track. I also like weighing in at home and seeing my progress on the little chart. It keeps me going!

I started WW online on January 26th, and to date I have already lost 22 pounds!!! The program works as long as you follow it.

I've done WW once before, and I did lose weight as long as I followed the plan. I lost 30 lbs, but I wasn't exercising and eventually just fell off the wagon completely. I'm older now and have accepted that this is a lifestyle change, not a diet. I'm making a commitment to myself (and my health) to change my ways. What I really like about WW is that after you get past the first couple weeks, it becomes super easy. Your body adjusts to the smaller portions and you really begin to get a feel for what needs to change in order to survive long-term without the plan. By the time I finally reach my goal, I will be so accustomed to a new way of living that it will be habit. I don't plan on logging points for the rest of my life... I will know what's good and bad. And I will stay active!

Also, it's okay to splurge now and then. Don't cut out the foods you love because it isn't realistic. I would never be able to stick with something if I had to give up what I love. I still eat ice cream/fro-yo regularly... and splurge on tex mex on the weekends! But I keep track of it all... I remain accountable. If I go crazy one weekend, I know I have to work hard the following week in order to see a loss. I also choose to weigh in on Fridays as opposed to Mondays, because I want my weigh in to be as far away from the previous weekend as possible!
