someone on another website has as her tag 'I am responsible for my efforts, not my results' and I'm trying to keep that in mind. While growling.

My average calories since 02/03 have been 1400.

I've begun trying to add in more exercise (walking).

    Heyho.

Please check out the above Sticky found over in Support as to why the scale fluctuates. Because from what I can see here, you are talking about a one pound fluctuation. One pound. A perfectly, reasonable amount, with no "real" explanation required. ESPECIALLY given that you had the "food posioning" episode. You're body was a bit out of whack and it took some time to adjust. Really, this is perfectly, perfectly normal.

You MUST, MUST, MUST remember that weight loss is NOT even. It is not linear. Regardless if we do the same things week after week after week. Chances are we'll get 3 different results for the 3 weeks.

Just as a side note, I know for me (& I know many of the maintainers as well) many times I experienced a "whoosh", where all of the sudden after having small losses, a nice 2 lb or even a 3 lb weight loss will occur.

Also just wondering, had you been doing any exercise prior to "starting" to walk? I think you will find that walking is a great boost to your weight loss. You may want to start thinking about some strength training as well. Stretchie bands are a great way to start. Another thing I would HIGHLY recommend - Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds DVD's. The 1,2, 3 Mile Express with Stretchie Band is a GREAT beginner's DVD. Wonderfully simple to follow and effective. And really, again, exercise will greatly help your cause.

Stick with your plan. With a tweak here and there as needed. BREATHE. Relax. Learn to enjoy the process as you learn about your body. Because it's an ongoing one. Know that you're doing the right thing for your body and in turn your body will do the right thing for you.
  • Thanks for that great advice. I'll check out those vids.

Apart from occasional bursts of walking, I do no exercise, it's a wonder I'm not totally stagnant. I remember last time I lost weight, I walked so much, miles every day between appointments. I'm aiming to get that back while I save up for a gym and also do some local research for a gym with trainers that understand medical conditions like hypertension. So many round here are kind of cosmetic or just leave you to get on with it.

I'm not really down about it, like you say, who can get that anxious over one pound; but 'non-responsive scales' have always been my big bugbear, always shout 'failure' 'guilt' at me, so this time I'm working at understanding my body, reflecting my disappointment, who doesn't want to lose 10lbs a week but rising above. I'll keep trying.
  • 1400 calories sounds low to me...
  • Sooo frustrating when the scale gods don't recognise your sacrifices. I think it might be because of the food poisoning. You were probably very dehydrated for the first weight on your list, and your body is probably still trying to recover. How's your water intake? If your not managing the eight glasses everyday, I would suggest increase the amount you drink. And do keep up with the exercise. Getting your heart rate up on a regular basis makes a huge difference.
