Au revoir, alcohol

  • I've continued drinking during my whole weight loss process. I only drink 2 (or if I go nuts, 3) cocktails a week, once on date night, once on Saturday night.

But this week I am saying, Au revoir, alcohol...at least for now.

My weight loss has slowed of late, but I think this is more due to my not being as diligent about food intake -- my alcohol consumption hasn't increased at all. (And while I was in Hawaii, I had 1 or 2 every night and managed to maintain my weight!)

No, this has more to do with how I feel in the mornings after having a drink, no matter how much water I drink alongside of it. I'm slightly logy and tired, and I feel dehydrated all day, even guzzling water nonstop. And if I'm going to do a marathon at the end of June (my current plan), I need to be at my best for all of my training runs...not just the ones that come on days after I *didn't* drink.

So, farewell, alcohol. You're getting in my way. I'll see you again around July.
  • You know, it's really amazing, but alcohol is not necessary for having a good time!

Let us know how it goes, and good luck on your marathon.

    Jay
  • Alcohol has calories and helps stimulate the appetite. Alcohol doesn' t satisfy hunger, just empty calories. I couldn' t see myself maintaining and drinking.
  • I was actually amazed that it didn't interfere (or maybe I would have lost faster, LOL). Several times after nights when I had a drink (something like a margarita or a martini, btw), I would have a big loss. Didn't think it caused the loss, but apparently it hadn't interfered either.

I'm not going to miss being dehydrated on my morning runs!
  • I had the last glass out of a bottle of wine (I've had kickin' around here for a while) last night. Every time I think I'd like a drink to 'chill', I end up having a little something to eat too. I'm not sure it makes a big difference but ... I'm not in a hurry to replenish my supply.
  • I lost my taste for alcohol a few years ago and I don't miss it at all.

In fact not drinking has opened my eyes to all my friends who CANNOT have a good time without consuming some sort of alcoholic beverage.

I was talking with my friend about this last night. She is worried because she is noticing that her new husband cannot do ANYTHING fun without including alcohol.

I'm betting that if you go until July without a drink you will lose the taste for it too not to mention lose a lot more weight!
