Weird dieting side effect?

  • Okay, so I started dieting almost a week ago. Since I started, I've had a hard time sleeping. I've been having to get up 4, 5, sometimes 6 or more times to go to the bathroom, before I can fall asleep.

I don't think I'm drinking any more water than before, I've always been a person that drinks a lot of water. I don't keep track, but I drink two to four bottles of water a day at work, plus several more in the evening.

Has anyone else experienced this? This only started after I started dieting last week.
  • yes, when I eat lots of protien I pee non stop!
  • I've heard before that you should try to drink your water for the day by 2 PM. This might help the bathroom thing at night. You could try it for a couple days and see if it does anything. I don't know how early you are up but I am at work at 730 am so it is easy for me to drink 1-2 liters of water by 2 pm. Try it!
  • I wonder if 2 PM is supposed to be roughly eight hours before you go to sleep...just wondering because I'm a grad student and unless I have early class, my day has barely started at 2 PM!
  • i used to pee every 5 minutes! no joke ! but it gets better.
  • As for that bloated feeling, try a food journal where you track what you eat, the calories, and also the fiber and sodium. Don't do anything different at first, just use it to find out where your culprit is.

I use an excel spreadsheet as my food log because it's so easy to highlight and hit "sum", but I keep track of everything on the nutrition label. I realized my biggest foe was sodium. When sodium went up, weight went up. For this week I've tried lowering that tricky stuff and voila, the pounds are melting back off (presumably from all my hard work the days I ate bad and held that water).
