  • This is a great thread for those who want support, helpful hints, friendship and a great bunch of people to communicate with. This thread has existed for a long time and we keep re-starting it whenever the old one gets too long. Feel free to stop in and chat, we are not a "closed" group and welcome newcomers. Some of us have been together for well over a year, some only a few days, but we care about each other. We offer tips, we share, we pick each other up of the floor when we've had rough times and we applaud when someone does well.

So, please do stop on by and share a bit, support is what it's all about! We can really do this together.
  • Well, here is the new thread. A fresh beginning for us all today. I like new beginnings. Welcome!

Laurie, I am glad I am not alone as far a girl scout cookies go. They are so dangerous. I so appreciate what the money they make does for everyone, especially where I was a girl scout myself for years, but I just cannot do this anymore. I can resist lots of things, but they are not something I can handle. I went to a quilt group this morning and there was another box there that ladies were eating and passing around. I am proud. I stuck to my guns and ate the banana that I brought with me and though I wanted the cookies, I refused them.

TDI, I like your goals as well! I think setting small goals is a very good thing for all of us. Interesting that many of us have had sports cars. We have two of them and we would have to be about ready to be out on the streets before my husband would give them up. They were both gifts from my father in law. One is a Lotus Super 7 and the other is an original Mini Cooper. Both are British cars and my husband adores them. It's fun to take them out now and then in nice weather.
Also, TDI, great weigh in and congrats on the sit ups and lunges, I'm glad I did mine.

Laurie, 5 pounds in 8 weeks is ambitious, I hope you do it! Start journaling here with us if you have the time, I think it helps me when I plan what I will eat each morning here and then set the pace for the day in terms of how many points I will have. Where are you going on vacation?

Great job on those lunges, Jen!

Shall we set a goal, yet again, for more sit ups and lunges tomorrow? I want to go for 25. I also confess that I want to try to do at least ONE push up. I am terrible at those and can't do them ordinarily, but it appeals to me to do just one. Maybe the next day I'll get to 2?
If the weather is nice, I hope to do some yard work. It's the first day of spring ladies! What a relief to get this terrible winter over with. My yard is a mess.
  • Hi!!!
Thanks for the invite to new people! I started at 218 and I want to get down to 160. My husband and I are having a vow renewal service on October 17th and I want to rock some beautifully toned arms for that so I'm alternating cardio work out days with a bit of weight training. I'm only a little over one month into my diet plan, but I'm really excited! This is my first true attempt at living a healthier life, and I feel SO good about it. I just take it all, one day and one craving at a time.

Linda, AWESOME job choosing the banana over Girl Scout Cookies (also referred to as my arch nemisis). My nine-year-old brought home all As today and, as a treat, my husband made brownie fudge sundaes (because apparently he hates me -- lol) but I passed it over for some angel food cake and raspberries. YAY ME!!

bama girl at heart, but i followed my heart to ga....
i cast my lot in with a solider, and wherever he was, was home for me.
  • k..I'm closing the day 4 pts over target..but that's what the flex pts are for right? silly bf and sonic..

well at least I resisted doing REALLY badly...

    goodnight all.
  • Well I just read my post from this morning and realized that today is not hump day.....................it's Thursday...... ........ man I can not believe that I've been a day behind all day.....
So ladies I did it...I sold my baby... but I'm happy that my nephew got it..and he is just beside himself,it makes me happy to see him happy
So I think right now I'm going to be alright,of course the car IS still sitting in my garage, and I don't know how I'll feel when it's not sitting there anymore..it kinda became part of the family for me...but DH hated it,because he's getting so old and feeble...lol... and senile and he really doesn't remember a whole lot lately...
So I'll except all challenges I WILL do sit ups tomorrow, but not 25...more like 15 maybe...??? and the lunges sound pretty awesome!! so I'll go and get to bed gotta go pay the bank off tomorrow.....................we will finally own our house.....that is gonna be such a good feeling...to be debt free..well except for DH's truck when he gets it.........but that's his baby!!talk later!
  • Hello to the weight loss support group. I just restarted WW on-line and need serious support to get motivated. I have been walking and sorta following the points but can't work up a care enough to finish a day following what I ate. I stay within PV or close but by the end of the day writing it down seems tedious.
Glad to find a support forum here as the on-line forums are a pain to navigate.
  • Welcome gagarymwife! I know what you mean about following your love wherever they are. My love place is NH but the love of my life was transferred to NY state and we spent 8 1/2 years of our lives there at one point in time. Then he was transferred home. We've gone through this cycle with him employment and he is now commuting to NYC via Amtrak each week again but something new is on the horizon and he may be working in Boston again soon. If he were to stay in NYC working longer, I'd be packing again. It's been a struggle over the years with companies and jobs, he's a great guy but things have not always been "rosy". At least, with the military, there is a job and a company. I hope his career is not placing him in harm's way.
Your work out sounds like you'll be in great shape. What is the vow renewal service for, an anniversary? How many years?
I think I may have shared with people here that my 25th anniversary is in June and we've made reservations to have a 4 day get-a-way on the coast of Maine. I would be so happy if I could get down to 150, at least, for that trip and I like the idea of beautifully toned arms, but I don't know if I'll be able to do anything like that, but even a little will help?

Jen, 4 points ov er target isn't too bad. I closed the day with 3 points over and I was proud of myself consider how I blew it the day before. It's funny, I can laugh at it now but I have this mental image of me rolling around in crushed girl scout cookies, frolicking in that minty chocolate. Weird, right? : ) At any rate, that slip is over with and today will be even better. I have to plan a nice meal for tonight as my daughter comes home from college today for spring break. Poor thing, she's sick and has been to the nurse at school a few times during the week and even had a throat culture done (negative). I'm thinking chicken might be appealing to her? It's mild and I can make simple baked potatoes with it. I'll aim for that.

Trysh, sorry about your car, but paying off your home loan is certainly something to be proud of. We are no where close to paying off this house so I am envious. Incidentally, I may look into refinancing our loan to one of a shorter term at least, rates are really low right now.

Welcome to you as well, Tuesday Cool! Cute name. I think that those who do WW on line truly need more support as I feel my meetings really keep me going. My focus is heightened each week, almost like a bit of hypnosis. Though, this week the day after my meeting was the famous Girl Scout Cookie fiasco, so not sure what happened to me?

As for me, today I will do 25 sit ups and 25 lunges. I will do ONE push up, it may not be done well, but I shall make an effort. I always think about in the military how they say, "drop and give me 20". Well, I couldn't even do one of those, wonder what they would do to someone like me? Yikes!

    Meal plan for the day

    Remaining points 11

mid afternoon snack: 94% ff popcorn

    Dinner:
Chicken breast, skin removed (3), baked potato (3) string beans (0) Lite margarine (1)

  • Linda: Those are nice cars. Dh had a new style cooper for a couple years. He loved it.. then the Mitsu. Now we own a 2001 VW Jetta, diesel and a 2000 Audi A4 quattro.. although that may be getting sold on Monday. We go through cars regularly. Plus we're trying to pay off an outstanding loan. Then we'll be debt free, minus our house! We are pretty excited about that!!
Oh, and we had ordered girl scout cookies before we started WW. 2 boxes of the mint and 2 boxes of the peanut butter. I really don't like the peanut butter ones.. But, I can see how they're soo easy to binge on!!
I like your eclair recipe! I think I may make that next time we have friends over!

Armywife: I look forward to seeing your progress once we get closer to your renewal vows!

Trysh: It is always a sad day when you sell a baby! You'll get used to it, but you'll always miss it! But, it will be neat for you guys to own your home outright! Was it the supercharged cobra?

Tuesdaycool: Look forward to seeing you get moving!

Okay... I will be doing the situps and lunges later on and I'll raise you... so 25 sit-ups and lunges and 3 push-ups!

I'm very happy with my weigh-in still. Now I just have to keep it up.....
I'll be around later on. See you chickies and have an awesome day!
  • HI TGIF!!!!!!!!!!!
Tuesday and armywife!!!! I can't remember if I already welcomed you armywife,so I'll do it again if I had already done that...lol!
I weighred this morning and I am down a lb....192!!!YEY ME!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it,It's so much easier to stay on course when DH isn't here.....that sounds kinda bad doesn't it.....? He needs to leave town more often!!LOL " MY HUSBAND MAKES ME FAT" that's funny & kinda true,sadly.... Anyway
I'm happy about it It's been like a month since I've lost anything...so one pound lost is so very welcome in this house..I WILL TAKE IT! and run with it!
so I gotta go to walmart.....get a roast for dad his b-day is sunday,he'll be 81 and I'm going to fix him a pot roast hash for breakfast then dinner,he's going to my nephew's house,(the one who bought my cobra) and have fried rabbit....???....I've never had rabbit and don't ever really plan on it....the same with deer...I just can't do it....I'll just stick to the stuff that you can buy in the grocery section..lol...
Tdiprincess~ No my cobra didn't come with the supercharger on it... but my nephew plans to put one on it.....it's a 96 I think they started that in 04 maybe but I'm not sure...DH said that an 04 is what we'll get later on..but I'm not really worried about it....if I have another one I want to be in a position where the car is not my daily driver, one where we can park it and only drive when it's pretty out or there's a carshow...so that will probably be a long while...well to give an idea,DD is 10 and I told her maybe by the time she is driving we'll probably have another one so it will definitely be a while..so........
I gotta go get ready and go shopping.....talk later..............
  • well, I missed alot of chat!

Welcome armywife..yay for strength training..make sure to take some before and afters!!!

Welcome TuesdayCool I do ww online and enjoy the support of this forum!

derry--too funny about rolling around in girl scout cookies!

trysh -hoorah on the 1lb weight loss! Yay the car is still in your garage..AND your nephew got it! It's still in the family.

princess congrats on the good weigh in!

about our men sabotaging our diets...bf just had to take me to sonic! Well, I think i did really well considering...I have more control over what i eat because he doesn't cook and wouldn't dare make a baked treat..heheh. (I probably wouldn't eat it

Derry, I do modified push ups, and I think they are just as good at strengthening your arms: get down on all fours. hands beneath your shoulders and walk them out a lil bit...then rest on just your knees cross your calves...now keep your back in line with chest and bend your arms and do a push up. Try them..you may be suprised that you can do more than 1..for a stretch...sit back on your haunches and stretch your arms out in front of you and drop your head..if you do them right you will need that stretch..I did legs and abs yesterday I am doing arms today..

so I will take the challenge with 25 push ups...and I will add a challenge..tricep dips...this is where you sit on the couch, chair, whatever..grip the edge of the seat...you slowly slide your body off the edge with your hands still gripping the edge of the seat.they will be behind you....then lower yourself using your arms...you will feel it in the back of your arms...I love tricep dips..

Ok gotta go get moving..got alot of studying to do! Big test for CNA certification tomorrow and I want to be prepared!
  • Good afternoon girls.

Nice to see so many people joing in the conversation.

All this talk about exercise, I dug out my biggest loser dvd. Haven't done it yet but it's there waiting

Girl Scout cookies aaghh. Samoas, I can eat the box at one sitting. I did not buy any this year.

Shelbysmom I've eaten rabbit. It was OK. I would rather have the pot-roast hash. Enjoy the day with your dad.

Tonight is pizza night in our house. I manage and make a big salad with it. Medium veggie pizza, good stuff.

I'm happy we are into Spring, baseball season will be upon us soon. I love my Cardinals.

    Have a great weekend everyone.
  • Well.. I started the day off well.. and then I fell into an "eat-everything" mood. I stopped counting when I spent all of my points by lunch time. I'm going to have dinner, enjoy the rest of the day. Fortunately I haven't used any of my flex points this week. I will count them as gone. Tomorrow I will get back on track.
I didn't do the sit-ups, lunges or the tricep dips (they sound awesome though!). I did a little bit of line dancing while I was packing. Tomorrow will be a new day and I'll get over my mood to eat everything! Just figured I'd hold myself accountable! I haven't done this in quite awhile.
  • I was pretty successful yesterday. I ended up using 1 flex point. For me on a Friday night, that was pretty good.
Just to clarify, I do modified push ups as well. I did one yesterday and today I hope to do two of them as well as the 25 sit ups and 25 lunges. I have three pairs of jeans that won't zip up and fit my otherwise right now and I'm annoyed. These sit ups have a reason behind them.
I also did 25 bicep and 25 triceps curls with 2.5 pound weights and then got on my treadmill for 20 minutes. I even ran on the treadmill for part of my time. That was a good thing.
Today, my activity will be working outside. We have not even put a dent into all the sticks and branches that need picking up after our ice storm. Amazing how much there is, it will take ages.
I'm going to wear my i-pod and groove to the music out there today.
Saturdays are dangerous days for me, we usually eat out. Often it's Longhorn, which is our favorite. I'm going to try to resist certain things, particularly alcohol. We shall see how that goes.
We may not feel like celebrating tonight, DH went to get our taxes done today. We're very nervous this year. He started a new job a year ago in January, effective the first of the year. He worked for himself as a consultant before that but then went officially on the payroll and it was hard to know what to claim and if we picked the right number. If we have to pay, it will be a cheap pasta dinner at home, I guess?
  • Good morning, ladies!!
I hope everyone ended the week on a GREAT note!! Thank you all for welcoming me. It's so amazing to see how much people support you and want you to reach your goals. Also, I LOVE seeing recipies posted. I have NO idea what to make sometimes.

Linda-- Unfortunately, my husband is gearing up for a 12-month deployment in Afganistan in October. It's going to be really hard. This is our first one. However, I'm fiercly independent, so all of the things that can kindof tick my husband off from time to time will actually benefit him when he leaves. Some of the women on post can't handle finances, homes or children. I have NO idea how they will deal when there's no one else but them to shoulder all the responsibility. I, on the other hand, have planned to take advantage of my husband's absence and pay off all of our debt so we are in a position to buy our first home when he gets back. (My husband is king of BUY NOW, PAY LATER -- WHENEVER I GET AROUND TO IT)
We will be renewing our vows on our second wedding anniversary. Chris joined the military very shortly after we got married so we weren't able to have a lavish ceremony. So, before he goes overseas, it's really important to us to say our wedding vows in front of our families.
Twenty-five years is absolutely wonderful! Military marriages seem to be falling apart left and right. Actually, I guess that's marriages in general. It's always uplifting to see a couple stick it out even when all the times are not rosey. Trust me, we are still newlyweds, but there's been a few not-so-rosey moments around our house. The military demands alot, and we had to make some serious adjustments in order to be sure he and I could stay together for the long haul.

On the weekends, I stay out of the gym and home with my family. However, I think I'll sneak a one hour Zumba (latin dance workout) when my son goes to bed. My husband has to stand 24-hour watch so I won't be missing out on our movie and massage night.
