My Epiphany!

  • So I rode Corey(my friends horse) yesterday for the first time in a while. I mean REALLY rode, not just get on paddle around like I usually do. Ive never really ridden being over 200 lbs, so it was really a shock for me. I used to be a great rider, i could get on any horse and ride, no problem, and was taking lessons with a top instructor. I was GOOD.. Now I feel like i dont know what the **** im doing on the back of a horse. Corey is amazing, im lucky to have access to such a good horse to ride, especially since my horse Aliya isnt trained yet. And I sure as heck dont want to get on her back until i know I have some of my "skills" back.
Well anyway, my mom was kinda giving me a riding lesson while I rode him, just helping me out a bit. Halfway thru my ride i broke down in tears. I cant ride like this. This is not me. I need to drop this weight so i can do the things that I love again. Right now I have a hard time gripping with my thighs, and my butt is almost too big for my saddle and god knows im probably killing the poor horse under me! So heres my big epiphany. I NEED to loose this weight to ride again. Theres no ifs ands or buts about it. My legs were killing me after my ride yesterday, but i went to the gym last night anyway for a half hour. Then I got up again this morning and rode. Corey was being a pill for me this morning, trying to buck whenever he cantered etc, so i ended up just riding for 20 minutes, but its better than nothing.
On the plus side, last night at the gym I was able to run for about 7 minutes straight! I was very proud of myself. I know it may not sound like much but im the kinda girl that gets winded going up the stairs! But anyway, im being much stricter on my diet now, and considering my riding as part of my exercise, i ENJOY that much more than going to the gym so it works out good for me. It doesnt end up being a chore for me to ride. Its fun and not to mention that the horse im riding needs to get back in shape and loose a few too, so its not only for me, its for him too!
  • Wow, that's great to hear! I had horses awhile ago and know the feeling of riding. It's such a great feeling! I hope you stick to it so you can become a better rider, both for yourself and your horsey. Good luck with it!
