I'm a book worm and I'm looking for some good books to read. I'm not really looking for books that map out a diet and/or exercise plan, I'm looking for books that simply talk about weight loss and getting healthy, more of the mental approach to it I suppose. Have you read anything inspiring? Anything informational? I'm trying to take a mind-over-matter approach to this whole lose-weight-and-get-healthy journey....
One of my favorite books ever is Staying Healthy With the Seasons by Elson Haas. It was my absolute bible during the healthiest, thinnest years of my life.
The China Study was helpful to me. It's about the effects of a natural meat free diet on the body. I also find any of the Biggest Loser books inspiring.
The Artist's Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity by Julia Cameron really helped me understand the new meaning for me to live a healthier life and eat healthier.
This is not a diet or health book really but it could be used for healthier life style just like The Art of War was not a business book per se but still could be applied to it.
I REALLY enjoyed this book. It's been out for a while but I re-read it from time to time to this day.
Another book I just loved was Turn Your Dreams Into Actions by Milton Katselas. It too is not a diet book but could be used to envision a new healthy lifestyle. It is one of the best motivational books I have ever read and I read most all of them! LOL!
I learned most of what I'm modeling my diet around from two books : Ultrametabolism by Mark Hyman, and The Spectrum from Dean Ornish. Both give a very good explanation of what food is doing in terms of fueling your cells and how many chronic illnesses occur ... and how to educate your doctor in terms of ordering the correct tests and how to interpret them.
The best book I think I've ever read is Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson. I read it years ago when it won an award and it is sitting on my table right now, waiting for me to read it again. And it was made into a movie that was just as good as the book.
