saving calories till dinner?

  • With breakfast and lunch, I have had 670 calories, so I have 830 left for dinner. is it ok to save that for a large dinner instead of eating snacks? Dinner tonight is Baked pork chops, mashed potatoes and broiled broccoli and I just dont know the calorie count for that yet so i dont want to risk a snack and then go over at dinner. Am I looking at this the right way?
  • I save about 1/2 my calories for supper because I have the mentality that I have to be "full" at least once a day. (This also majorly helps *me* with no binging). So, I think this sounds like a pretty good supper. You could have 4-5oz pork chop, pretty good serving of potatoes (depending on how you make them)...and loads of broc. (and maybe have enough for a yogurt or fruit later in the evening).
  • I do this most days and I am losing weight yet so I guess it is working. I am a farm grown girl who married a farm grown boy here in WI and well that is they way we were raised. Work and eat littler amounts during the day and then have a big supper, get full and sit around. I am sure that explains my weight. I now count calories, smaller portions and so on but I usually intake about 600 - 800 calories at supper and I average about 1500 calories a day. Soon as the time changes and it warms up here I am going to add to my 45 - 1 hour morning work out by talking a nice walk at night. Won't be today because there is 6 to 10 inches of snow on it's way! I want spring to come!!!!
  • i am so glad I am not the only one that needs the big nightly meal...LOL My potatoes are made with Earth Balance buttery spread and skim milk
  • I do the same thing- if I don't I'll end up eating more later anyways- someone told me that means I'm not eating enough during the day- but I think my body just wants one meal that feels like it's a lot- I'm not stuffed- but I'm very satisfied
  • my dinner was 846 cals. i had 830 to spare so not bad. I do have a couple bites left on the plate but I'm full...lol
  • I only eat at dinner time, and I've been losing weight and gaining strength through my exercise, so I think you're fine to spend the calories any way you'd like! Whatever you can stick with seems good to me.
