Underactive Thyroid

  • I have a very underactive thyroid, so I have heard its going to be a real challenge to lose weight. Just looking for anyone, who has the same problems as me. And if you have any advice or maybe some tricks. Lol Actually I started out with TSH of 117, which I hear is really bad. But the last bloodwork came back normal. So I'm hopeing this will help. Also I'm going a Zumba class 2 a week, I wish it was more. But thats the only days its available. I think I'm gonna try to do it at home. And laugh at my self.

Well if anyone has any input let me know, please.
  • Have you seen our "Dieting with Obstacles" forum? There are entire threads dedicated to the challenges of weight loss with an underactive thyroid...check it out!
  • Did they put you on meds yet? That might help out a bit. I know once I was on meds and everything was regulated things went more smoothly. The weightloss was slow going, not too slow, but slow going. Lots of plateaus.

Yeah I've been on meds for about a year.
  • i'm on synthroid, we have a lot of trouble regulating it, we keep upping my dosage, but i have noticed a change. i'm confident that once we find the right amount everything will come off a lot easier. if you take your meds regularly i dont see this affecting your weightloss. good luck, let me know if you find out anything interesting.

i was surprised to find out how many things a hypoactive thryoid can affect
  • Since my thyroid was destroyed about 5 years ago I've put on a good deal of weight, 40 pounds. The ONLY way I have been able to drop any weight has been on ATKINS - very low carbs. Everytime my meds are changed the weight comes back on fast, very fast. Presently I'm on Armour Thyroid and I feel very good (first time in a long time) however no weight has come off.
