Low-Carb meal replacement shakes

  • Have any of you tried the EAS low carb shakes or Slim Fast Low carb shakes for snacks or meal replacements? Is there any reason to believe these aren't SB phase I friendly???
  • Take a look at the ingredients...
here is what is the slim fast ones...
Water, Calcium Caseinate, Milk Protein Concentrate, Canola Oil, Cocoa (Processed With Alkali), Potassium Phosphate, Mono and Diglycerides, Cellulose Gel, Glycerine, Maltodextrin, Cellulose Gum, Salt, Soybean Lecithin, Guar Gum, Sucralose (A Nonnutritive Sweetener), Artificial Flavor, Carrageenan, Sodium Citrate and Citric Acid. Vitamins and Minerals: Magnesium Phosphate, Sodium Ascorbate, Calcium Phosphate, Vitamin E Acetate, Zinc Gluconate, Ferric Orthophosphate, Niacinamide, Calcium Pantothenate, Manganese Sulfate, Vitamin A Palmitate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Thiamin Mononitrate, Folic Acid, Chromium Chloride, Biotin, Sodium Molybdate, Potassium Iodide, Phylloquinone (Vitamin K1), Sodium Selenite, Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) and Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3).

a big part of the SBD plan is eating "whole" foods... I, myself, wouldn't want to drink canola oil and its one of the first ingredients! I prefer to spend my 200 calories eating a nice big salad with some beans and dressing...

Most of the ingredients I see aren't in my vocabulary and I try to stay away from that stuff
As for if its ok on p1 or even 2 of the plan, well, I wouldn't use them but maybe others have more insight on this-I just don't know that these ingredients are allowed.
  • Wow - I never looked at them like that before. LOL! Thanks!
  • I have used EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control Shakes and it doesn't seem like there's anything bad (a lot of added vitamins). They are only 110 calories and have 17 grams of protein, 2 grams of fiber and 0 sugars. They come in vanilla, strawberry and chocolate. I actually like the taste of all of them (they aren't really thick like Slimfast), especially the chocolate (kind of reminds me of Yoo Hoo or whatever it was called).

They hold me over and do not cause any kind of cravings for me. I prefer to eat than drink my food so I only use them when I'm on-the-go. For that, they're perfect.

I buy them at Walmart. Note: you have to check the label as they offer different types of shakes. These are the only ones with 110 calories a serving.
  • Personally, I'd rather just make a homemade smoothie. In Phase 1, I use FF plain yogurt, a little FF cottage cheese (thickens it up), ice, and SF syrup. In Phase 2, I add protein powder, psyllium husk (makes you feel SOOO full!), and instead of ice, I use frozen fruit (no sugar added). Delish!
  • I have used the EAS low-carb shakes. They are OK if you are in a hurry and need to grab something and go. I can't see why they would not be allowed on P1, but I'm by no means an expert. Hope this helps!
  • I like the Atkins shakes. I use them for breakfast when I'm in a hurry. According to the Good Fats/Good Carbs guide the Atkins, CarbSolution, EAS AdvantEdge, Keto Low Carb and the regular Slimfast shakes (not Optima) are ok in all phases. It does also say that while these are not ideal, they are better than fast food.
  • I bought some for "emergencies" when I don't have time to cook or I'm on the go and I'm hungry. Anything is better than caving and ruining the whole diet!
