D. All of the above.
Most mornings I exercise at 5:30 am and I pretty much roll out of bed and out the door. - I do drink water.
Long runs or really hard workout days I'll eat something light about 45 min to an hour before. PB toast usually.
Marathon or HM race days I will try to get up early enough to eat a small but full meal 3-4 hours before the race. oatmeal with banana and nuts or something similar. 3-400 calories. I reduce it in size depending on how late I get up. My last marathon I had breakfast 3 1/2 hours before and a poptart on the drive in.
I do yoga or go running (3 miles) first thing in the morning (about 5:15). I have either an empty stomach, or something like about 1/2c of green juice or 1/2 banana, or a few grapes, or maybe a small orange.
I can't eat right before running. Anything more than a cup of coffee, I'll see it again soon.
Eat something light. I try to eat something with a lot of protein in it to help me through my work out
I eat something somewhat light. If I'm working out in the afternoon after work I'll usually have a piece of cheese and a Wasa cracker or something similar.
I always have something, though. If I don't eat before working out my energy level will be down and my workout generally less effective (because I don't have the energy to push my hardest). I've also become light headed from not eating.
I'll sometimes eat something light within 30 minutes of working out, usually if I go after work. If I eat a full meal I have to wait at least 1 hr or I get a stomach ache.

Lately, in the last month or so when I strength train in the morning I typically eat a tortilla wrap containing a lean protein and veggies. Small, light - around 150 calories or so. I'm just aiming for some energy about 40 minutes before my workout without being hugely full and slow.
Afterward, as soon as I'm done I mix a half serving protein shake. I follow that soon after (an hour maybe?) with another wrap, usually identical to the first one.
If I'm only doing cardio that morning I'm not as concerned. I can happily do that on an empty stomach without my performance being affected.
I have carbs before a workout like orange juice or a piece of fruit. After my workout I have protein such as eggs or fish.
I eat carbs before my workout, as well. I usually do it after lunch and by that time I have consumed plenty of carbs and I have hardly any with dinner and my other snacks.

Yeah, same here - I eat carbs (like a fruit) about 30-40 mins before I work out. After, I have a glucose energy pack for recovery.
