Mexican food

  • Tomorrow night I am going with a group of friends to a local Mexican restaurant and a play afterwards. I have been looking forward to this but have become worried about what to eat.

This is a local restaurant and the menu is not online. It is too far away for me to run by and pick up a menu but I want to go in with some idea of what to order. I looked at Moe’s Southwest Grill nutritional info to try to get some ideas.

I have planned low calorie meals for early in the day, so I will have about 800 calories to work with. A 1000 calorie meal won’t hurt too bad as I am shaving 100 calories off of today’s limit and can do the same on Sunday.

Option 1 - I am considering ordering a fajita, skipping the sour cream and guacamole and having them put the cheese on the side. If I just eat the meat, peppers, onion, one tortilla, and a little cheese, I thought that I could count it as 800 calories. Do you think that would be close?

Option 2 – Order the chicken quesadilla that I really want but I am not sure that 1000 calories would cover it.

There may be better options but I am not that familiar with the calories in Mexican food. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  • I think the fajitas would be ok. We have a local mexican restaurant too and it's my FAVORITE place to eat. Although - we don't eat there as much as we used to. I have discovered a chicken enchilada verde. I don't have any idea if it's a better option - but the green verde sauce doesn't have nearly the calories as the gravy sauce. And the Corn tortilla is much lower in calories than a flour tortilla. I could be wrong - but this is how I've rationalized it in my head
  • taco salad... will probably be low in cals opt for chicken instead of beef... also if yo u can maybe just try ordering regular authentic tacos the kinda with corn tortillas they are much lower in cals and carbs with chicken meat, lettuce, pico de gaillo, or just onion and cilantro... no sour cream or cheese..- I make these tacos at home every week.. they are very low cal..
