Just can't get it started...

  • My wife and I have been on a whole-food, low-carb diet for a couple of years now. We were both quite overweight, and she's managed to lose 60 pounds (and have a baby!) in those two years. I've lost...3.

    3 pounds.

I need to figure out what it is that I'm doing wrong, and fix it. Shouldn't it work for me like it works for her?

  • Maybe you should try watching your caloric intake? I've been doing that and so far it seems to be working.

I've never done a low carb diet so I don't know how that works.
  • Hey Essence -

One of the things this site has taught me more than anything else is that we are ALL different. Low carb works for a lot of people. For me? It does nothing. NOTHING. I've tried, it doesn't work. So no, the same plan does NOT work the same for everyone.

So maybe its time to investigate something a little different...South Beach, Calorie Counting...the world is your oyster. So you might want to consider it.

We have lots of forums here, by eating plan, age range, amount to lose...look around, find a spot, settle in...and keep posting! Can't wait to get to know you better!
  • Well first I'd check to see while you are doing low carb- how many calories are you eating? Rule of thumb that I follow is 100 calories per 10 lbs you weigh to maintain, 75% to lose.

So if you weigh 285, you can eat 2850 calories to maintain, but then you need to eat 2200 to lose weight. Too little and you can go into starvation mode- and if you don't space it out through the day you can gain as well.

Could you give more detail about how you normally eat? That might help
  • Hi Essence! Welcome to 3FC! I agree with Amanda---what works for some people doesn't work for everyone. Can you post a typical day's food and exercise? We might be able to give you some feedback.
