Hello from San Antonio- one of the fattest cities in the US

  • Hello fellow fat chicks!! My name is Nena but I go by Blumargarita on several other MBs (long story). I'm a 43 year old teacher and mother of three teens (17, 15, 13) and FIVE furbabies that keep me running, so it's really hard to stick to a diet. I started at 218 last week and hope to be down to at least 180 by my niece's October wedding. My ideal weight would be about 140 (I'm 5'7"), but I've been overweight since childhood and thin only for about three years (18-21), then it all started added up. One of my biggest weaknesses is not eating breakfast and not packing a lunch, so I end up getting food from the school cafeteria. I lost 23 lbs. on Somersize a few years back and felt really healthy, so I have decided to get back on it.

My main reason for trying to lose weight is that I have had lots of numbness and sometimes pain in one leg, and I'm worried I may be prediabetic. I have several aunts and uncles that were diabetic, and two who lost their foot. Yes, I have a doctor's appointment next week for a full physical, but I know my weight is one of my risk factors-- can't do much about the family history, but at least this I can control.

I'm really excited to be on here and getting to know all of you. Oh, and I'm at 212.5 today-- weighed in for a contest at work-- so far down 5.5.
  • Hi Nena! Welcome to 3FC! I'm so excited for you and your loss so far. There are lots of moms here balancing families, work & weight management. Sounds like you have some great reasons to lose weight. Diabetes can be scary. You are on the right track!

We have a 40 something forum here: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=216

You are more than welcome to post in any forum that interests you. We also have a diabetes subforum.

My DD is looking at Trinity University in San Antonio. I might be picking your brain about the city if that's ok!

    Glad you're here!
  • hi hi and welcome ^^, hope you get to lose all the weight you need and get a great start and finish on your journey. best of luck :3
  • Absolutely! Trinity is expensive but worth it. It's really got a great location too-- the city is making major improvements to make that area much more pedestrian friendly, and with Incarnate Word University next to it, it's becoming a mini-collegetown in that area.
  • Thanks for the info re: Trinity, Nena!
