Question: Being sick and dieting

  • Hey everyone, I don't usually post much I tend to lurk more than anything (ha), but this past week I've been stricken with a stupid cold, not puking or anything, just nose, throat, cough type of thing...anyway I've been miserable and not hungry at all, so the last 3 days I haven't eaten a whole lot. I started eating on a low carb plan the day after christmas and already lost 8 lbs. This morning I stepped on the scale and it read 197! That's 5 LBS! Couldn't believe my eyes, but I'm wondering if this will all be gained back once I feel better and eat on a regular basis?
  • I would be prepared to see at least some of that weight come back once you recover. However, it wouldn't be the strangest thing I'd ever heard if it didn't.
    Hope you feel better soon!
  • Oh well thank you
I am crossing my fingers that it stays gone!
  • It might or it might not stay off. More not if you got dehydrated, obviously. But if you really ate too little, you may also have depleted glycogen stores, which will make your weight go up as they are replaced. Just get back on track with good nutrition and you'll be fine.
  • Be prepared that it may go back on.

Soup is really good when you're not well, and it's low calorie, so stock up on that and get better soon! x
  • when i was sick a couple days ago i was 131 .. now im back up to 136 . So yeah you are probably going to put it back on
  • It really depends. I once had a stomach virus and lost 20 pounds (I was borderline hospital admittance type sick) and kept it off for an entire summer. Just stay nourished and listen to what your body is telling you and try not to worry about the weight
