First meeting fees and obligations

  • I am interested in joining WW. I think this is the only plan that will keep me accountable for losing weight. I have a few questions about the first meeting.

At the 1st meeting do you sign a contract to attend further meetings? Do you pay ahead of time? I'd prefer if they did not auto pay from my checking account or credit card each week / month. Thanks for your help!

  • With WW, there is no obligation to stay after your first meeting, and in fact, you can even sit in on a meeting for free, if you are interested (however, you will not receive program materials, if you do not pay). I do know at my center, when they offer free registration, you can pay as you go to the meetings, and it's about $13/week. You must also pay $5 for any week you miss a meeting after that, I believe. I get the monthly pass, as it's the least expensive option and I really enjoy the meetings, even though it is deducted from my checking. It makes my life easier, and ensures that it's always paid, without me worrying about it!
  • Staja's info is spot-on, I just wanted to welcome you to 3FC!
  • So did they change the fee for if you miss a meeting? Last year when I went to the first meeting to get the startup materials and see if it was something I wanted to stick with, the leader told me that if I missed meetings, I'd have to pay as if I had gone anyway. I had been hoping to try every 2-3 weeks instead of every week (because of money) but ended up deciding on an at-home kit instead. $5/missed meeting is much more manageable for me than $14 (that's the weekly fee around here).

We're going to be moving about 50 mins away, to a more highly populated area with more available. Dh is a state employee and is starting a new position within his department. I'm seriously a country girl at heart, but where we are now is in-between. I'd love to be in an area where there is a great deal of natural beauty and availability of hiking trails and such, like where we lived for about 6 years before living here. We're not in a position to buy a place, escpecially not a place with a couple acres and plenty of outdoorsy things to do. But we're in a small town (about 5,000) with not much of anything to do. So if we can't have the house with the acreage, I'd rather be where we're close to things for us and the kids to do.

ANYWHO!! There should be many more options for meetings if I decided to start up again, once we're up there. I still don't think I could handle the $14/week fee, so if things have changed re: missed meetings fees, that would be great.
