Belly fat SUCKS. lol. I carry my weight in my lower body, so I have a huge butt, huge tummy that is now hanging thank you very much genes, and big legs.
You want to get your tummy muscles strong, which I am starting to work on. The thing is if you do carry your fat mostly in your tummy or midsection area, it will come off at some point I hear. I like the idea of hula videos...that sounds like a lot of fun.
As for exercises you can do, do a search on Google and you'll find more information about specific exercises. I was looking into this myself and the one thing I read over and over again is to avoid just doing the usual sit ups. There are exercises that have you lay on your back so your back is nice and straight, then you bend your knees and lift your legs/knees up toward your chest and while you do this you can put your hands behind your head and crunch toward your knees. You hold this position and then you want to move your pelvis/knees to the left and right, but you don't want to move your entire body and the whole point is control and slow movements. Then you center and relax back and do it again and again. You can also just bring your knees up and crunch then hold. The control is in those lower ab muscles and the key is not to pull yourself up with your hands and etc.
I have a DVD that I use that has the same move and I do feel it in my lower abs and etc. Exercises like that are great, you can do them anywhere, and they are quiet so if you are concerned about noise then you're all set.
