Calorie Counter - I need help!

  • I am very confused about these reports on fitday.com

    What do these mean???

Calorie Intake graph: Actual Vs Planned: Goal= 2,400. Actual = 800

Calorie Burned graph: Actual Vs Planned: Goal = 3,300. Actual = 3,400

Calorie Balance graph: Actual vs Planned: Goal = 900 Actual = 2,700

How many calories should I eat a day????

They seem contradicting to me. I don't understand.

Another question, how often should I weigh myself? I lost 8lbs in 2 days? I had the 24hr flu, is it because of that, or just water? I'm confused.
  • You need to know a few things to determine that. I like Jillian Michaels' method shown in her book, Winning by Losing. Based upon these things, you can figure out your calories:
    1. BMR
    2. Daily Activity Level
    3. Exercise Expenditure
This all makes up your AMR (Active Metabolic Rate)

Sounds complicated, but really it's not. Yes, you can sort of guess your caloric needs, but its best to really figure out the math. FitDay has their own method I'm sure, but personally, I prefer Jillian's. If you want, I can help you figure out your info via Jillian's method. PM me if you do.

Otherwise, I'm sure someone with better knowledge of FitDay can help you with your specifics. As far as weighing in, once a week. Anymore than that can drive you insane. LOL! Good luck either way!
  • I will PM you. Thanks.

I think it goes like this:

Calorie Intake graph: Actual Vs Planned: Goal= 2,400. Actual = 800
Your calorie goal was 2400. You ate 800.

Calorie Burned graph: Actual Vs Planned: Goal = 3,300. Actual = 3,400
Your expected calories burned for the day (based on BMR & general activity level) is 3300. Your actual calories burned for the day (based on BMR/general activity level, plus actual exercise) was 3400.

Calorie Balance graph: Actual vs Planned: Goal = 900 Actual = 2,700
Your expected calorie difference (3300 - 2400) was 900. Your actual calories difference (3400 - 800) was 2700. [Did you copy this right? It should be 2600]

This depends, of course, on accurately entering your food and exercise.

Thanks, that explains it better for m,e. It could have been 2,600. I was estimating. Lol
