Calorie King

  • Has anyone used Calorie King as a tool to count calories? I was just wondering how it worked for anyone who has used it.
  • I've used it, but I tend to double check with other sites to make sure the count is just right. (I just type in something like "boneless skinless chicken breast calories" into google, and check out the first few sites I know to be decent).
  • ok so i dont know how worried you are about this...but i refuse to pay for just about anything on the internet...so i use calorielookup.com it is free, also it has a journal where you can search and then click add...and it keeps track of all the food and the calories for each all together. and you can go back and search through past days to find stuff. also if you workout you can enter in times and types of workouts and they adjust your daily intake calories for you. it really is easy and it requires little thinking. which is why i like it, oh and its free. good luck and be careful. becuase you can add any food on there but you have to rely on everyones honesty that the calories are truly what they are. but everytime i have checked it, its only been 1 or 2 calories off. i guess when something is free you shouldnt expect perfect. lol anyway check it out and see if you like it, im not even sure if calorieking cost anything. but check the calorielookup.com its petty cool.
  • I really like their PDA software (Diet Diary). It is convenient to carry it with me and use it to log my eating and weight.

I found it comparable to my PC Fitday and more convenient.
  • Thanks for the calorielookup.com tip, hotpod!

I use Calorie King (it is free as a lookup tool), I also use Fitday for my daily logging (it's free to set up an account online - there is an option to pay for a PC version) and My Daily Plate (I like this as a lookup tool for stuff that isn't in Fitday).

I like Fitday (as opposed to the spreadsheet I used before) because I can run reports and check ratios like percentage of calories from protein/fat/carbs. I also track my exercise.

No matter where or how you do it - I swear by tracking. For me it has been a key to my success.

I am believing in tracking more and more everday. Nothing has ever motivated me as much as wanting to keep my "weight graph" sloping downward.
  • I am a long term member of CK (back when it was free) and love the site and continue to pay for my membership at a reduced cost since I was grandfathered in.

I log into another software that I purchased. So cost is not an issue if it is a tool that I like and works for me.

As for looking up calories the only issue I have with CK is they don't offer the full label. So I tend to go to calorie-count.com

I've used it to look up items when my Biggest Loser Calorie Counting book was upstairs and I was too busy to run up and retrieve it. (My laptop is in the kitchen).
