Hey.

  • Hey. I'm new. I'm 20 years old. 235 lbs and 5'6 tall. Sad, I know. I have a problem with snacking & eating cookies & other treats. I think I'm addicted to eating or something. I have a boyfriend of 4 years. He's 175 lbs. He looks like a stick. I hate me being bigger than him. I wish I was the smaller one. I don't have very much confidence or will to be on a diet. I don't know if 'will' is the word I wanted to use. But, I want to lose a lot of weight. I want to be 150. But I can't stop eating sweets. I don't eat anything good for me. I drink pop all day. I recently got off birth control, because that made me gain some weight. And I have been testing depression medicine from my doctor. My first medicine was Celexa, horrible side effects, so I quit. So now I am testing Effexor XR. I want to be on a diet and lose weight but I don't think I can do it. I have no one here to enourage me or to help me. I asked my boyfriend to help me, but he lets me have whatever I want. But yeah, I'll probably be posting a lot and stuff. So see you guys around.
  • "I don't think I can do it." "I can't stop eating sweets."

That's the first thing I would work on if I were you. You have to first believe that you CAN make positive changes in your life, and become healthier and happier. You have to believe that you deserve all the hard work that it will take (especially in the beginning). It's hard having a boyfriend who is smaller than you. (I know, I'm 5'2" and 160 pounds and he's 5'7" and ~120, all muscle, bleh!).

Even if your boyfriend isn't wanting to help you right now, he might once he sees that you are trying. He might not have seen it as a serious thing, but that can change! Even if it doesn't, ultimately you will be the only one you can count on, because you're the one that decides what you put in your mouth and how much.

Just try not go get too overwhelmed with the big picture at first, especially if you don't think you have much determination to be healthy. First, try eliminating the soda. You can do this little by little, just cutting back a little more each day or each week. I used to drink 64 oz of Dr Pepper a day with turned out to be something like 800 extra calories a day. Just a small thing like that will help immensely.

Just try to take it one step at a time. Good luck!
  • Thank you for your response. Today at work, I grabbed 48oz of Minutemaid Light Lemonade instead of 48oz of root beer. I think the lemonade is healthier. I don't know. lol

I hope you are right about my boyfriend seeing that I am trying and maybe he would help me. But he has kind of helped me already. He said that we can start going to the gym together, his skinny butt wants a six pack. But I hope this works out and it's just something we said and didn't do.

    Thanks for your input.
  • Welcome to 3FC!

Peccavi's post is excellent. Don't rely on anyone else to lose the weight for you. If this is what you really want, then do it for you, and do it with determination.

Also, make it a habit to check calories when you're eating/drinking. Sometimes what seems a healthier choice can be just as bad!

    Best wishes to you!!
