Filler-free vitamins/supplements?

  • I've starting taking Vitamin D for (among other things) seasonal depression. It's helping with that, but I noticed that the brand I have (NatureMade) has fillers that include maltodextrin, sugar, and corn starch. Now I know these are probably fairly small amounts per pill, and they probably need to use some sort of starch or filler to hold the pills together, but I figure every little bit counts.

Anyone know of a brand to look for that doesn't fill their supplements with unfriendly starches?
  • My brand is "Finest Natural" from Walgreens. The D is in a gelatin capsule. Ingredients beside the D are soybean oil, gelatin, water and glycerin.
  • Thanks Anne, that sounds MUCH better - I will check Walgreens for that.
  • I use Shaklee, but I can't tell you off hand what the fillers are.

With your seasonal depression, you may also want to add a b-complex supplement.

Thanks for the info! I hadn't heard that. What does it do?
  • When I was trying to find a natural way to ease my PPD symptoms, I did a lot of research and talked to a lot of people. While I usually take a cocktail of different supplements, the B-complex is one that I most depend on to keep my mood stable.

They sell all the b vitamins separately, but I've found that a b-complex with added folic acid works the best and is only one pill to swallow.
  • you can also get this as a liquid. I know it helps with my depression.
