Getting through the lows...

  • I'm bipolar, but no longer on medication. It's not so bad that I don't think I can't learn to overcome it, so that's what I'm working on. It's great when I'm in my highs... the house gets SOOOO clean! Right now is a low. I have no motivation to do anything. All I can do is sit on the couch and watch tv, to distract myself. I know, logically, that if I got outside and got some sun and exercise, I'd probably feel better, but the best I can manage to force myself to do is go eat when my stomach starts to growl.

How do you force yourself to do what's good for you when you're feeling down?

How do you force yourself to do what's good for you when you are feeling down?
    How does anyone do it?
For me its a moment, the one where I am tired of it.
Getting tired of feeling crummy, of feeling blue, of feeling sorry for myself.
I stand up. If I can stand up I can do the next step.
I usually don't have a plan of whatI am going to do. That comes when i start walking away from the bed or the chair.
So right now I will get up. Oh wait, I do have a plan, will walk the dog.
Thanks, you gave me a kick in the butt.

  • I SO wanted to just go back to bed this morning, after the others had left the house for work. I had an hour to either 1.vegetate and hide from the world for an hour before getting ready for work; or 2. to exercise for an hour.

I really had to force myself to chose the exercise today, some mornings I do it just out of habit and am not tempted at all to do the hiding thing; but this morning was difficult, my TOM always makes the depression symptoms much more apparent. But I did force myself outside for a walk in the sun; I know this time of year the sunlight is especially beneficial to me.

And I think I'm prompted by the thought, of knowing how extra crummy I would feel if I had chosen to hide in bed for an hour, instead of exercising.

    good luck to you
