Pushups & Side Planks

  • I was able to do 15 real pushups, not the modified ones with the knees down on the floor... When I started exercising I could do 2... I've been stuck at 14 for almost two weeks, yesterday and today I made it to 15! Woo hoo! I can also get into 'side plank' and hold it until the woman on the yoga video moves us into the next pose (no idea if that is the real name of the pose, it is what the woman called it in the video ). The first time I tried it I fell flat over on my face!

  • Awesome!! Great job!!
  • That's a big achievement. I'm still working on this. Congrats! I know you feel dynamite because I would if I could do un-modified pushups. Keep up the good work!
  • What an amazing feeling. I remember when I used to do yoga all the time and I finally was able to do those things. It makes you feel so powerful! Keep it up!!
  • That's great. I assumed I could do some pushups, because I do a good plank. But then I tried ... so, not really . But I did try a side plank for kicks last night, because they seemed pretty impossible when I started yoga in April. I could do it!

Yeah, I thought the same thing about the pushups when I first got started trying to do them - thought I should be able to do them just fine since my plank was pretty good. Uh, no. Way to go on your side plank, too, Julie!

I can't remember, was it you who posted about an upward facing plank in another thread? I can't do those to save my life...

I did. And you're right, they *are* hard . I started out doing a flat table top type thing. Like an upward facing plank but bend the knees at a right angle, so shaped like a table with 4 legs instead of a leaning plank. And it's not just a muscular challenge, it also demands a lot of flexibility in the shoulders and ankles. I still can't get my feet fully extended in upward facing plank. What a weird place to be inflexible!

So glad to hear I wasn't the only one who could do a plank but not a pushup! So now I need to work on those pushups.
